ablation

I’ve got a date for my ablation for be done next Thursday, which is great only waited 10 months, they’ve now agreed for it to be done under a GA instead of sedation which is a big relief to me. My main concern is recovery time, my job is quite physical and heavy, just wondering what other people’s experiences were ?

Thanks

Ignore nonsense from ablation team about being back to 'normal ' in a week ! Best idea look up Patient leaflet on here Preparing for,and recovering from an ablation. Very useful.

Bear in mind that although you don't have a bit scar and your ribs wired up,you have had significant interference within your heart.

Please take it steady or you'll undo all the work.

Take it easy, please. I find it frustrating sitting around doing nothing (as my long-suffering wife will happily testify) but I had to do just that after my ablation. OK. so you’re having local rather than general anaesthetic like I did but your heart is still going to be taking a pummeling and it will take time to recover so just grit your teeth and relax for some weeks. It’s worth the wait and, hopefully, you will eventually find life post-operation to be much more pleasant with reduced or virtually no AF. Wishing you a speedy, successful recovery.

Great you’ve got a date for your ablation! I agree entirely with wilsond. I put the success of my ablation down to 2 things. One is the skill of the EP/cardio team and two is the long weeks I took resting and building up my activity levels step at a time. Having everything planned out ahead was vital - I didn’t have to do much at all for the first 3 weeks, even employed a cleaner for a few weeks, husband did all the cooking (still does 😉)A best friend more or less sat on me in her efforts to ensure I took a lot of healing rest. I’m lucky to be retired but gave up anything strenuous on the allotment and garden for 2 or 3 months. You only have one heart and this precious opportunity to overcome the Afib. It’s often a false economy to think we must dash back to work only to find we’ve overdone it and got poorly again. Good luck!

Hello

Thank you for your message, it is perfectly natural to have questions ahead of a procedure. Have you had a pre-assessment appointment yet? Preparation is key in these circumstances, so please download our patient information sheet.

Preparing for an ablation for atrial fibrillation: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

It is difficult to predict a recovery period, as everyone recovers at a different rate. you will be made aware of a 'blanking period' where AF and ectopics can reoccur, but does not signify the procedure has failed. Once again, you may be interested in our information sheet:

Recovering from ablation for atrial fibrillation: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

However, if you are concerned and would prefer to contact our Patient Services Team via our dedicated Patient Helpline or via email, then we are very happy to help: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards

If the EP goes through your groin, you need to make sure that you don't lift anything heavy until that opening is completely healed. If it opens, you need to apply pressure yourself to stop the bleeding or go to the ER.

I was off for months but I'm a fitness class instructor so was just to weak to do that. I'm unusable slow to recover though 😱
