Hi All, well at last I’m due for my next ablation for AF on Monday..... however, I feel like I’m starting a cold, no fever but a but a bit of nasal congestion and a tickly feeling at the back of my throat. Do you think the procedure is likely to be cancelled? Has anyone else had this problem?
I’m so desperate to get this done!
Thanks, Maura

One of my flutter ablations, the last one i think, I had a stinking cold come on a few days before. When I rang them they said it's be OK.
On the day of the procedure I wasn't sneezing but I was streaming and had a very bad sinus cold..... snot everywhere.... they still went ahead and did it and I had no ill effects at the time though getting over it took longer than I expected (the cold and the ablation)
Thanks for replying, I’ve been trying to keep this at bay but very difficult! It’s a head cold at the moment but I’m coughing a lot too at night , just when lying down. Not sure who to contact at Hammersmith Hospital (where I’m having my ablation) as it’s a weekend......
I rang the ward, via switchboard as I think my surgery was the Monday. I rang the Friday before (so they could get someone if needed) and again when I felt lousy on the Sunday because I didn't want a wasted 64 mile trip to be cancelled.
They encouraged me to come in and nothing was mentioned about the cold.
Do some steaming too that helps kill the bacterial in the tubes and also the Britsh Army did a study and concluded that washing hands more often and changing your pillow case every night reduced the length of the colds of the soldiers in the study.
Hi, I would definately get advice from your cardiologist because when I had my ablation last week the lady after me had hers but was not well after it and her breathing was not too good and the questions I heard being asked were about the cold she had the week before, I think you need to be rid of the cold before going in. All the best, Ursula
My ablation was cancelled because of bronchitis. Anesthesia was not comfortable because my airways were not clear. If it's just a cold without any thick bronchial mucus you should be Ok. They will evaluate you in the pre-op area before and will send you home if things aren't optimal. Best wishes
Thankyou. It’s so frustrating isn’t it? Great timing! I don’t have a productive cough at the moment so will wait to see what the anaesthetist says on Monday. Until then I’m dissing myself up on all things natural!
