very odd just wondered if there is a link. I’ve had very few episodes of a fibb lately , then I get this awful cold yesterday and up most of last night with a fibb even this morning still going on. I did put Albos oil on a handki under my pillow but I wouldn’t have thought that would be bad and I only took paracetamol for headache.

got a rotten cold

Of course you will. Amy inflamation can set off AF. Stay warm and well hydrated and paracetamol for temperature.
I agree with Bob any infection can trigger a higher heart rate and AF.
I’m new to all this as only diagnosed 3 weeks ago. I really didn’t realise just how much it impacts your life. I am starting to not panic so much but it is a horrible thing . Mind you I guess we are a lot luckier to a lot of people . Thank you for reply
It's a hateful condition but yes there are a lot worse things we could have had than an abnormal heart rate.
I've had AF now for almost 20 years and it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I discovered that changing my diet to one that excludes artificial sweeteners and additives has really helped. I'm now in constant AF with a rate that flits between 60-90bpm, it's so much better than those awful paroxysmal random attacks I used to get when my pulse went sky high.
Hope you will soon find a way to manage your attacks.
Jean
Focus on lifestyle changes, I regret having AF but I am super grateful for the Lifestyle changes that I would not otherwise have taken.....so always look at your glass half full to decrease anxiety.
My AFib started when I caught a nasty coughing virus from someone at my sons wedding in 2014.
I too have a rotten cough & cold which thankfully hasn’t instigated AFIB 🤞 but my heart rate is higher than normal 80/90 instead of my usual 60
Yes. It was a cold that first set off my atrial fibrillation. I had a cardioversion that cleared it for 8 months - then I got another cold. Currently waiting for another cardioversion and possibly ablation.
I had an ablation 5 years ago and was fine until January. I had a viral infection which put me into AF. Cardioversion in February which only lasted 7 hours. Now on amiodarone and waiting for next cardioversion. I'm going avoid infected people once I'm fixed.
Absolutely! I've only had three AF events in a decade, all triggered by a viral infection; upper respiratory tract infection in each case. This is why in my case AF is a symptom, not a condition.

So sorry Lellibet. I hope that as your virus recedes that the Af does too. Covid started my arrhythmias and destabilized the thyroid (leading to all kinds of heart abnormalities). Cardiologist says there has been a very large increase in arrhythmias since 2020. I am now very wary of any virus. I guess that I will be wearing my respirator masks for the rest of my life!
