Just had 4th ablation and it could not correct atrial fibrillation. Now the next step will be a permanent pacemaker. Has anyone had the diagnosis and if yes how is it with a pacemaker. Did it improve your quality of life. 59 years old and Living in Canada. Thank you kindly!😊

Refractory arrhythmia, now need a permanent pacemaker and AVN ablation

In a word YES. 2018 70% AF burden prior to PM implant - today 2% AF burden.
I have a CRT Medtronic pacemaker which was to be prior to AV node ablation but the pacemaker worked so well for me that I cancelled the procedure. I do not take any drugs for arrythmias or heart apart from anticoagulants. I wouldn’t hesitate as it’s a quick day procedure under local anaesthesia - obviously there are risks which you will be advised on. Only tip ensure they close with stitches NOT staples.

Hello
Thank you for sharing your medical history with the Forum, I am positive many of the members here will offer their support based upon their own experiences. AF can affect individuals in different ways, therefore treatment options also vary too. We have some great information about the procedure known more commonly as 'Pace and Ablate' on the AF Association webpage: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa.... Along with supporting resources: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...
Alternatively, if you would like advice from the Patient Services Team, please do not hesitate to contact us via our Patient Helpline or via email: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...
We hope to hear from you in the near future.
Kind regards
