Day 2 Post Ablation

Came home yesterday and spent it on the sofa. Heart is quiet. A few ectopics, average HR overnight 63 which is the advised 10 beats higher than before. But doesn’t feel too thumpy which it did the first night., so didn’t sleep too badly. My groin is doing well, no bleeding or even much bruising so far as I can tell. The main areas of soreness are my throat and chest which are pretty achy. Not needing painkillers but nevertheless makes sitting on the sofa the easy choice. Onward to day 3!

Sofa mandated for at least a week!

Sounds like all is ok right now. It's strange how some people have soreness in the chest and throat after an ablation. I never experienced that after my three ablations and can only guess that you had a tube put down your throat to check for any blood clots around the heart before they performed the procedure. Can't remember what the procedure is called at the moment.

Best wishes

Jean

Thanks Jean,

I did have trans oesophageal echo (TOE) looking for clots so that must be it. My mouth also sore from the same thing I imagine. But as you say, seems ok so far.

Thanks Tracy. That guide is so useful. I sent it to my family as well.

Did you have a pulsed field ablation?

It wasn’t discussed and I had hardly any time with the EP doing it but noticed on the discharge notes 31mm PFA catheter. So I think that means I did! They used Farapulse and the Rhythmia mapping system. The cath lab was like the inside of a spaceship.

HiI'm day 3 Ablation... I feel fine, during it I didn't have any AF stayed in SR I just feel knackered post GA. HR fine.

But I do have a very sore throat, the TOE probe plus the GA equipment down my "delicate" throat, a bit much!! I was discharged same day as I was first in Lab.

This morning have a bit of a chesty cough, I never get coughs so must be the GA effect.

Hardly got any bruising, so lucky with that, no chest pain either.

Me too on the sofa watching rubbish Christmas films and my DH /Butler waiting on me.

The Guide that was posted I was given on discharge.

Best wishes.

My sore throat and chest much better this morning but have quite a dry mouth. So wake up feeling thirsty, have a drink, then have to get up to go to the loo. Have also lost my taste for coffee (decaf) Disaster. Heart seems ok. Rate lower overnight (61 from 63) with a few ectopics but fewer than the night before. Went for a 10 minute walk around the block with husband. Nothing happened.

Well done Sixtyslidogirl. Take it easy and don't rush to get back to normal activities. I'm now 8 months post first ablation and all going well. Like you there were the few thumps and bumps in the chest for a week or two and the sore throat and weak voice for a few weeks which was a worry as I'm a singer. But that's all sorted now.

Look after yourself. It sounds like you're doing really well.

Sounds pretty much normal healing. Enjoy your time on the sofa!

My heart rate increased from around 64bpm to 74bpm, still that way after 9 months. My EP isn't concerned and says it could still return to what was normal for me

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Can I ask if you had sedation or general anaesthetic?

Many thanks.

K.

Hi,

I had a general anaesthetic, for which I was grateful at the time, though maybe fewer problems with sedation. GA has the effect of making me retain urine for a few hours so it’s a big effort to have a wee initially. Also, I have a bit of a dry mouth which has woken me up in the night. I’ve bought a saliva replacement for tonight so we’ll see how that goes.

I'm so glad the GA worked well for you. I've always had sedation for my ablations but I asked for a general anaesthetic for the next one, which I'm on the list for....could take an age I know :(

I really can't go through another one with just sedation, they were very uncomfortable for me.

Hope you have a relaxing evening and a good night's sleep.

K.
