Headaches Post Ablation

I've had a successful ablation in the left atrium (Yay!). They did a PVI ablation. It was one mk the ago and I have had daily, severe headaches, with some nerve type pain/tingling in my feet/hands/and some dizziness that comes along with the headache. My EP has decided it isn't related even though it began on Day One post ablation and continues. I've never had headaches before. The Cardiologist said I should take a baby Aspirin and maybe get an MRI of my brain. No one seems concerned that this could be from the Transseptal Puncture. I've asked for an echo w/bubble study,.but no one seems to think that is a likely reason for the headaches. Any experience out there with daily headaches at 4 weeks out from ablation? They are worse in the evening, worse after a busy day, and come with some dizziness. They are the worst headache I have ever had. Nothing seems to help.

I myself had mild to moderate headaches in my left temple that would come and go during the day after my cryoablation. It went on for a long time, like few months. I think after 3 months it started to occur less frequently and nowdays (9 months post ablation) it comes rarely but its still in the same spot in my left temple. Really strange since it started basically the day after my ablation. But my EP ian't worried so in the end I started to accept it. As I said, nowdays it comes on rarely, maybe 2 times a week and it lasts like one minute or so. Recently I had brain MR for something else and everything came out normal. Seems we are all different and everyone reacts to ablation in their own way.

Aural migraine is common post ablation due to the transeptal puncture but seldom lasts more than a couple of weeks. My last ablation they actually did an echo cardiogram next morning to check pressures in the two atria. I think this a good idea. Strangely few people actually get the headaches, just the aura.

Hello, headaches are one of the side effects following an ablation, you may find the 'Recovering from an Ablation' information sheet helpful, it lists the most common side effects of what to expect in the early days after the procedure: Download from the AF Association website:

US: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

UK: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

Kind regards

Thanks Tracy, the handout was helpful early ablation, but at four weeks out, the doctors seem puzzled that they are still happening daily and so severe. I appreciate the feedback. I've asked for an echo,.but we will see of they decide to do it or not.
