Recommendation for BP and Afib/Pulse check

Hi HUC.

I highly recommend the Boots Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor (normal price £39.99). It's easy to use and tells you your blood pressure/pulse rate and if your heartbeat is irregular or normal. I bought one and have found it to be very accurate. Have a look on the Boots website - Enter 'monitor wrist' in the search box and it should be the first one on the page. It's now priced at £36 ready for Black Friday.

This recommendation is from my own personal use of the product - I don't have any financial interest in Boots whatsoever.

Money well spent IMO.

Enjoy your weekend.

Paul

Good Evening Paulbounce

I have terrible anxiety with upper arm Bp monitors

Because sometimes it feels like it's not going to stop ( when it is tightening up on my arm )

Does the wrist monitor have the same sensation , i don't know if i am positioning the cuff incorrectly

I wondered if the wrist monitor would be any better ( or the same )

Sometimes the cuff is ok and other times it's quite painful

Would welcome you feedback

Thank you in advance for any comment you may be able to add

Hi Whosthegraniam.

I find the wrist monitor much better than the upper arm version. The sensation is not very noticable - I won't go as far as to say you won't feel it, but I find it's never painful and less hassle than the upper arm monitors.

Boots are very good refunding your money if you don't find it a good fit for your needs - just make sure you keep the recept.

Hi

I changed my BP Home Monitor to a MicroLife.

You buy your top arm size.

It also a narrow cuff.

If you do it don't tighten the cuff. Just narrow it until it fits around.

I know what you mean and I have had 2 old Drs ones BANG. Bladder inside broken.

Hi Joy.

The MicroLife sounds good. Being able to buy one that fits your arm size and has a narrow cuff might suit some forum members, if they prefer the upper arm monitor.

Hi

Paul. Is there a finger BP and Heart rate item as well. Also taking your temperature!

That would be good for travelling wouldn't it.

We don't have boots in New Zealand.

cherio JOY

Thjoy with microlife is that it takes 4 x AA batteries as against the oter one I had. And I had to get a replacement after a year. My Microlife is still going after 3 years. Buy at your Chemist and take to your Clinic to have it checked.

Hi Joy.

Yes, you can buy a finger pulse checker. I bought one and found it gave false readings. I checked it at the doctors - she put her pulse reader on one finger and I put mine on another - mine was very inaccurate. I didn't pay much for it so maybe that's the reason. I think they are a good idea and can give an accurate reading. Don't buy the cheapest but spend a little extra to get a decent one. Check out reviews on TrustPlot for the model you may consider buying.

Hi

But I thought it did heart rate temp and BP?

Perhaps not all.

It would be great if it did.

Good tip! I live in France and came back from visiting my mum in the UK 3 days ago. If you had posted before I would have bought one as it sounds very practical . Next trip!

Hi Lily.

You can order them online from eBay but I wouldn't touch them. The price is cheaper but half the time they are fakes - It's not worth risking where your health is concerned. I'm sure you could buy a similar monitor in France. Don't go for the cheapest - you get what you pay for in this world!

I never buy anything off e- bay. I'm not in a rush I'll pick one up next time I'm in the UK as I like Boots and usually pop in when I'm over .Take care

Hi Paul

You must be. bouncing away.

Do you mean TEST PILOT??? I've not heard of Test Plot! ???

Hi Joy.

No, it's TrustPlot. Maybe you don't have it in NZ. If not use a VPN to make it look like you are based in the UK. It's a good idea to get one anyway as it encrypts your browsing and makes it safer if you use an open WiFi when out and about.

I would go with Omron Evolv, myself, worrying about Boots as a company these days.

Hi Steve.

For sure - we discussed this on another thread. The Omron Evolv is certainly another monitor for forum members to consider.

I've had Omron M2 for years because it's the brand my GP uses, but it's getting old now and difficult to work out which one is similar to mine. It's just a simple model that shows a symbol for erratic heart beats, a warning when BP is too high and had a memory of about 20 readings. They have so many types now. The last one I got, the arm cuff was far too big even though it said it should fit me. . I gave it to my son.

Ppiman in reply toQualipop

The Evolv is sometimes on a deal. that's how I got mine. It has no "cuff" as such and works so much more easily than wrapping a cloth around the arm. The wrist models are similar but somewhat harder to get replicated figures.

I'll have a look although it seems odd not having a c uff. I just want a simple one with a decent memory that shows erratic heart rate.

Ppiman in reply toQualipop

Oh it has a cuff, but it is unique in design, not like the traditional wrap around kind, and is so much easier and more comfortable to use.

Hi Qualipop.

A quick Google search shows there is an upgrade of this monitor - Omron M2 Plus. The normal price is £39.99 but yet again Black Friday steps in. Now £31.99 - maybe have look at 'upgrading' and buying one of these?

Paul

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply toPaulbounce

Thanks- good idea although I have o need to upgrade. Why can't anyone just leave things simple?

Paulbounce profile image
Paulbounce in reply toQualipop

Hi Qualipop.

I agree - if it ain't broke why fix it. It's not going to happen though. 'Confuse everyone' is the new 'keep things simple'.

Had a look at the plus version and it connects to your phone. Hang on I don't use a smart phone. I have one but never put it online as I'm house bound and have a landline. Why use a mobile phone?

Paulbounce profile image
Paulbounce in reply toQualipop

I agree Qualipop. I have smart phone sitting right in front of me now - I never use it. I paid £18 for a basic mobile and it suits me. The battery lasts for ages and the reception is perfect.

The smart phone does everything and connects to the internet - My basic phone just makes calls and I can send text messages. I'll stick with that thanks. Everytime I bought a smart phone in the past a pick pocket nicked it when I was abroad. They wouldn't even bother with the basic one.

True. MY husband has a very basic mobile phone. He refuses to even learn how to use a smart phone. Mine only gets used for hospital texts and such and if I've been taken to an appointment and need picking up . I can't see one without my reading glasses so what's the point?

l have this Paul. I am on my second one! Absolutely brilliant and of Boots high standard. Very accurate as mine was compared with my GP on one occasion. I know personally (my late husband was employed by Boots) that everything is rigorously checked before being sold to the public. This is why they are so reliable and have such a good reputation. As you say, worth every penny.
