Have waited since September 19th for echocardiogram result in the UK. Is this a long/short delay ?

My yearly or 6 monthly echo is done just before I see my cardio. She then goes through it with me at the consultation.

Long, I got mine in two weeks but there was something to comment on. Hopefully the delay means all is normal.

Quite normal in my area. Warwickshire. BUT if abnormal, as I have had on occasion, bumped up. So..no news..Good news x

Too long. I had mine 2 days before my EP appointment. I was told in Guildford (Surrey) the report and data would be available the next day for any medic.

The last time I had an echocardiogram was at a GP medical centre. I had the result for the next day. And I do mean an echocardiogram, not an ECG.

When I went for an echocardiogram I was given the results immediately after it. Generally though with the NHS no news tends to be good news as they are quick in informing you if there is a problem.

My echo was done a week before my cardiologist appointment, and was given the results then.

The second one, I was given the results there and then and things were explained to me. Good job, as my GP surgery just sent me a text saying it was satisfactory. Useless.

I guess it depends whether you have an upcoming appointment as to why you are still waiting for the results?

I had an Echo done the same day as my appointment with EP in May. 2 hr wait to see him and a very quick 5 minute appointment. Wasn’t told anything have another appointment next week and need to ask about it then.

I'm a " retired" NHS BSE Echocardiographer, ( I'm still working but I specialise in Pacing/Devices now ) I always said to patient, " you will hear if any problems" doubt any change so don't get overly worried. The Echocardiographer would flag it up, as they would report the study.

FYI... We take the same exams as the Doctors. One of my colleagues has her PhD in Echo. So safe hands.

I live in Aberdeen. Had one done before Ablation and EP appointment and was given results the day I had my appointment, but my EP requested another one when I saw him in May, but, so far still on waiting list. I lived up near Lossiemouth for 16 years and when I had my first one waited 3 months for appt then another 3 months for the results. I think it might vary by demand/location. When I did eventually get my results up in Lossiemouth I was given results by Practitioner Nurse and was told my 'heart was healthy!!!!!' and they only scanned half of my heart. I am glad I moved back home and cannot fault my EP and all of the care I have had since returning. My next step will have to be a Pace/Ablate procedure. I hope you get your results soon. Take care.

I seem to remember I had mine a couple of months after being told it would be “soon”! That was four or five years ago so “soon” might be a longer time now! Mine showed that the structure of my heart was fine according to the guy doing it and that was after I’d had to go up and down quite a lot of stairs twice as the lift at the hospital was out of order!! Hope yours proves ok too.

'Soon' is a very elastic term nowadays 🤣

True and I was told by a consultant I saw recently that it might be as the typing of nhs letters has been “outsourced” to private companies, sometimes in other countries!!

Usually takes 2 to 3 months to get the results from our hospital.

that’s a short wait.

I had my Echo yesterday afternoon and my result was sent through to my GP within seconds and early evening my Echo was on my NHS App.

May be I’m very lucky up here in Northumberland. 😊
