Depends on hospital. The procedure is only about 15 mins. I also think it depends on who is asking for it and how urgently they ask for it. If you are an out-patient it will take longer of course.

If its urgent and you have private medical cover or can pay you could get one tomorrow

Hi. Back in January the waiting time in North Devon for a non-urgent echo was 5 months. If you paid the £200 to go private then test takes less than a week.

Personally we thought it was a no brainer to pay the money to avoid months of not knowing what damage had occurred inside the heart.

Our echo was done by same person using same equipment in same hospital as if we'd waited the 5 months and afterwards we were fed back into NHS for follow up.

That's very interesting. 5 months is a very long time to wait especially if your anxious. Thanks

I had an Echo done a few weeks ago in hospital . The problem is that nobody explains what the results mean. You are wheeled in and wheeled out and that is it ! If I ever see a consultant I shall take it with me but after several weeks of AF I'm still waiting to see one.

Oh that doesn't sound Good!!! Hope you get some answers soon...must be awful!!😣

That's how it works. I also had to wear a Holter monitor for 72 hours but when I contacted the hospital for results they told me they don't give them to the patient !!

Oh my that sounds abit ridiculous!! I've to have an event monitor too. When are you going to get your results? They cant leave you waiting and not knowing what's going! That's utterly cruel!!

You don't get results. I had a chest xray in Hammersmith 2 weeks ago but I know I wont get the results. That's why I have my own pulseoximeter, my own BP monitor and my own ECG monitor.

Not what you're looking for?
