yesterday I had an echocardiogram before my pacemaker is fitted. Two actually as she had a student who was dying to have a go.

First time ever put probe on throat and navel. Any ideas why that might be

I will be interested in the answer. I had my first echo a couple of weeks ago - awaiting results. They put a probe on my throat at the end, but not the navel.

Spekt you know, but if you click on the “more” link below your reply and then click on “edit”, you can easily rectify any typos 😉👍

Oh, doh! Much appreciated, I should have thought to try that. I’m sure this A Fib is addling my brain. Either that or the waiting for results with no contact numbers to chase up.

ETA - done it, now the thread makes no sense!

Sorry Hylda, no idea why they should be tinkering with your navel, I don’t recall anything similar happening to me when I had one back in 2014…

Just aa thought but maybe listening to carotid and aorta.

Hi, I don't recall the naval and throat being probed when I was younger, but last 10years has more or less been the norm. Then again I've a leaking Shunt,Two Mech Valves snd PM to make sense of. I think a lot of its down to how good the technician is.

Hope they found them then. How’s your pm doing?

I had aorta checked for aneurysm once when I was taken to A&E with a weird heartbeat. I was very pleased about that because my Granny died of a burst aneurysm and apparently it’s hereditary.

It gives the doctor a chance to check for a narrowed carotid and a dilated aorta.

Thank you so much everyone for answering. Well I certainly had my money’s worth between the two of them. Let’s hope all ok and can get on with the pm as third episode of AF in twelve hours x

The last echo I had was about 18mnths ago and they definitely put it on my throat, I don't remember it being on my navel though. The technology has moved on a lot between then (18 months ago) and my previous echo (about 6 years before).

They were checking your abdominal aorta and your thoracic aorta for any abnormalities. Such as disections or aneurysms. They can then chart and follow.

Thank you. Perhaps because of my age or because she had a student watching. Now for the results!!!

Don’t think I have ever had either my throat or navel checked. Last echo about a year ago I think.

I just had an echo done at Houston Methodist in Houston and didn’t have anything like that. I’ll be curious what it is for. My echo was done in a machine that reminds me of an MRI machine

This was just a young lady with a probe. Couldn’t go in an mri machine Too claustrophobic. Waiting for an appointment in an open one

I'm awaiting an echocardiogram next month as well as a stress test. My cardiologist thinks I'm fine after my recent and only ablation in May, but he says these tests are de rigueur.

I find it odd that all of the doctors involved in my ablation now seem to assume I'm fine (I'm still concerned). This doctor literally asked me for an excuse to do the echo and stress test.

I told him that my heart rate once rose to 100 bpm in July without actually registering as afib on my Kardia, which is true. That hasn't happened since, though. My rate has been between the 60s and 80s overall.

The extra risk for me is that I also have a bicuspid aortic valve. It's going to give at some point.

Not what you're looking for?
