EDOXABAN side effects

Hi, following detection of AF on a newly fitted LINQ ECG implant I have been on Edoxaban for a fortnight. It corresponds of course to exposure to sunny weather but I have occasionally, several times a day spontaneous very itchy forearms, a sore type nettle rash type itch but not a sunburn type itch. I also had some aches in calf muscles in the first few days but these have gone now. Otherwise no other effects. Am I experiencing a side effect similar to anyone else on this drug? It's not enough discomfort to warrant change but I'd like to know so that I can yellow card report it is appropriate.

I have been on Bisoprolol, Apixaban, Ramipril and Atorvastatin now for more than four years for my AF and I have experienced itchy skin in the last 18 months or so, particularly my armpits, and related it to another condition I have (another story). I never thought it might be a result of my medication.

I was advised by my gynaecologist that it was probably the soap and deodorant I was using and advised to wash with Hydromol on the itchy bits and use a deodorant called Wild. The initial cost is around £12 for the deodorant, but you can buy refills for the unit. I also use Faith in Nature shower gel and hair products. I hardly ever get itchy skin now. I was completely unaware that soaps and shower gels contained so many nasties.

Hope this helps.

It's on the list of side effects for Edoxaban which is now the NICE preferred anticoagulant. I can't say about Apixaban. Some Doctors are not changing meds because there is an antidote for Apixaban in case of a major bleed but not one available for Edoxaban yet. But trials etc say that an antidote is rarely available in the time and circumstances of a trauma! Thanks for the reply. My itchiness is coincidental with the drug but also the sun and short sleeves!😎

Yes I get itching with Edoxaban, especially on my back. It drives me mad sometimes. I put Cerave cream on which helps a little.

My father broke out in a rash when he was changed to Edoxaban. He went back onto warfarin.

Hi, I take apixaban and that can cause muscle ache and make arthritis worse, Edoxaban may do same.

Ive been on Edoxaban for almost 2years. I get really really cold when the weather starts changing into Autumn/Winter. Even in Spring i can get cold hands. Asked my cardiologist about coming off it, but he told me its like having an insurance to stop any clots.

Hi thanks for the reply. All medication is I guess optional, but the NHS is largely staffed by well trained experts with an ethical code, whi am I to argue about their advice!!! I'm so glad and grateful for the support I've had. I've had cold response issues with calf muscles since these problems started, when swimming, never been an issue before. That's on Clopidogrel. Now I've changed to EDOXABAN we'll see what happens next time I have a dip. There are of course other possible explanations it may be unrelated to the meds.
