What do you call high? Normal is 60 to 100.
High is over 100 sometimes double that and more. The best thing I have found is, if you can, stop what you are doing and take a rest. Sit down and sip a glass of water slowly and do some yoga breathing to calm yourself down. Sometimes these things pass quite quickly, other times you may have to sit for half an hour or so until you feel everything has settled down and you can return to what you were doing.
All the best
Try massaging your vagus nerve, where the pulse is in your neck. Or hold your breath then blow out your cheeks like you're blowing up a balloon. This can often reset your heartbeat.
My cardiologist told me not to worry about sudden high heart rate as apparently the older you get the less likely; I am 70yo. However, for peace of mind, he agreed to give me a prescription for Bisoprolol to be held as a PIP.
Take it easy, sit down and relax- slow deep breathes and take some Bisoprolol or other rate control drug.
My normal heart rate is in the 80s and 90s. If it does suddenly go high it's usually because of stress, anxiety or worry. Just sit back, have a drink of water , take slow deep breaths and relax. It helps if you do something to take your mind off it. The more you worry, the faster it goes.
controlling your breath helps controlling your HR. Think of the yogis and monks that by breath and meditation they can slow their hearts. For us mere mortals slow mindful breathing through nose for at least 5 minutes a few times a day does the trick for me. It varies but 6-8 breaths a minute. If you want to read about breath get the book by the same name written by James Nestor, it was an eye opener for me and teaches the importance of nasal breathing vs through the mouth breathing
Yes I find the breath really effective in slowing the heart and sometimes settling the rhythm too. You'll notice if you take a deep breath in and a long breath out, the heart speeds up as you breathe in and slows as you breathe out.
So if you extend the outbreath a bit longer than the inbreath it works really well. And if you practice the breathing I find it comes up more easily when you need it during an episode.
Take care ..
Hi
We need you diagnosis! Rapid AF, Persistent AF.
What is it at rest?
Best is a 24 hour Heart Monitor. It will take your avg Rate.
100 with AF?
I would try to reduce it down from 100 as you are borderline. Loose some weight?
It does make a difference and carrying less means less stress on your heart.
Yes, hydrate. Try UHT milk too. Has more goodness than water.
