Week after latest AF and rate has slowed nicely but still continually irregular. GP tells me that this maybe the case forever. Had some good advice etc on this great forum but any comments gratefully accepted !

So it's not in AF but just irregular? i had two bad bouts of irregular heartbeat post AF but came back to NSR 8 hours later, why does your GP say this could be permanent?

To be honest Im still learning about the difference! Heart rate was over 130 in A&E and upping my bisoprolol brought it down. Waiting to see GP on Wed for further advice as my heart is bouncing between 45 and 85 bpm. Dont feel too bad just a little light headed at times and occasional short pain in chest

When it goes between 45 and 85bpm are you just relaxing when this happens?

Are you just on Bisraprol or any arrhythmia drugs also?

Ask away mate, glad of the help. No, this was only my second episode.Had one about 18 months ago and after 6 or 7 days all went back to normal. Hoping same will happen this time. GP doesnt seem concerned but Im a worrier !

I know all to well about worrying, its terrible when this happens so many questions and trying to figure out whats causing it gave me the most headache, did they put you on Bisraprol than after the first time? and did the GP after the first time did not refer you to get an echo or any further tests?

Yeah , put me on 2.5mg and have now upped it to 5mg.I had an echo the first time at it was fine. Was reluctant re the rivaroxaban but ive had no ill effects from it yet. I need to go now mate but thanks for the chat. Ask if you have anything else that may help and I will reply later. Thanks again !

I hope your GP has a plan because he should! If you do not revert to NSR in about a week he should refer you to a cardiologist with a view to having a cardioversion - electric shock under sedation. AF cannot be considered permanent unless that has been unsuccessful. And btw AF is AF regardless of the speed but slower is better, AF with RVR (rapid ventricular response) can be very nasty and sometimes needs a visit to A&E.

Thank you for reply mate

Persistent AF is not uncommon but it is best to see a cardiologist and then an EP. I see you are already on an anticoagulant and bisoprolol - it may be a CV (cardioversion) will put it back to NSR. I had persistent AF and had to moderate activities and even got breathless going upstairs. I had 2 CV’s then an ablation to get back to NSR and feel much better.

Hopefully you will return to NSR naturally.

Thank you for that, appreciated

Ask your GP to refer you to an EP, they are the specialists in arrhythmias.
