ablation followed by cardioversion

Ongreendolphinstreet profile image

Hi, I’m 67. Fit (or at least was). Non smoker/social drinker. AF diagnosed in Jan this year but probably started Nov/Dec. Had cardioversion in March (St Richards Chichester). Worked for less than a day. Had ablation in London in June. Started to improve but reverted back. Now EP proposes Cardioversion to see if that works. Does anyone have experience of this. ( I’m not holding out much hope!)

Worked for me! Very common really as per our fact sheet on recovery.

Cardioversions have always been successful for me. I've had quite a few over the years (nothing to them) but you must remember not to do anything strenuous for a week or two after having one. Allow your heart to get strong beating in it's correct rhythm. I once walked up a steep hill the day after having one and went straight back into AF. Avoid alcohol and large meals too.

Hi, may depend on what you did after. Did you rest for a wk or so, lay off social drinking etc

Hi, I did but four weeks later I started doing some DIY and suspect this might be the cause. Alcohol free for 6 months (apart from a glass of champagne at my niece’s wedding!). Since writing my last post I have had two short episodes of NSR (using my Kardia to take ECGs) so the process of recovery may be ongoing.
