Yes I have. Ring the pharmacist and they will tell you if it’s problematic. It depends on body mass etc..

Was you ok. Did you have to go to A & E. I doiany pharmacy is open now.

Yes, I was fine. I assume by now that you are ok as sufficient time has elapsed for the dose to have greatly diminished in strength?

Hi Mayflower, yes I had two by mistake a few months back. I didn’t feel any side effects but took extra care that day with sharp objects!

Thank you and did you just carry on with your normal time taking it after?

Yes I did, as recommended.

Just remembered - on the night before my ablation last October I took all my medications twice by mistake! So embarrassing- I wasn’t going to tell the EP but my husband persuaded me I should. I decided to take the Apixaban as normal in the morning but left out the digoxin as I read it stays in the system longer. My EP told me I’d done the right thing and made me feel ok about it and the ablation went ahead!

I don't know if my reply came through or not. But just spoke to pharmacist she said leave this morning one off and start again tonight. But foolishly just took a spoonful of olive oil then read don't take with Apixaban

I've never heard that, I use olive oil a lot on bread instead of butter for example The advantage of NOACs is lack of dietary restrictions

Just searched and found this on Google:

According to DrugBank, the therapeutic efficacy of Apixaban can be decreased when taken with olive oil. Olive oil may also slow blood clotting, so taking it with other medications that slow clotting could increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.

Other things to be aware of when taking Apixaban include:

Alcohol: Be careful with alcohol.

Cannabis: Cannabis may increase the risk of serious bleeding.

Garlic: Garlic products can cause bleeding in rare cases, so taking it with Apixaban may increase the risk.

Ginger, ginkgo biloba, turmeric, and some Chinese herbs: These may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with Apixaban.

St. John's wort: This may decrease the effectiveness of Apixaban.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): These, including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Naprosyn), and diclofenac (Voltaren), may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with Apixaban

My doctor said I could take what I liked with Apixiban. Not so with warfarin

" According to DrugBank, the therapeutic efficacy of Apixaban can be decreased when taken with olive oil. Olive oil may also slow blood clotting, " Well that's confused me.

I really hate all the drug and some foods interactions with Apixaban! Look up almost anything and you are likely to see 'may interact with Equis.

It makes me question it tbh. Eg St John's Wort is very successful with depression, but no, can't use it. Most of the usual everyday painkillers, nope! Now olive oil. Think I also read reduce salads and greens because of the vitamin K.

It's always 'may' increase the risk.

It's time we were given real, clear % so we know what we are dealing with.

I was told I must take it for life after 1 episode of AFl caused most likely by stress, a very modern medicine and sleep apnea.

I agree and think it is drug companies covering their backs on the whole. I'm eager to try CBD oil as it ticks a lot of boxes, but sadly insufficient research to show if safe or not with my prescribed meds. This research is unlikely to materialise any time soon I suspect.

Exactly so Bagrat. 😀

I'd go a bit further and suggest that these 'may interact' phrases could be being used to discourage use of safe, herbal etc. medicines that compete with their expensive stuff.

The only thing that makes me trust my use of Apixaban is that York Cardiologist, on YT says it does help after a heart 'incident'. I trust him.

Agree re pharmaceutical companies attempting to dissuade Yes, I've met Dr Gupta several times and had 2 consults a few years back.

111 are always available anytime and have pharmacists/drs to advise if your pharmacy is closed. Take care 🦊x

I've done this once, not surprisingly when my statin looks almost identical to the apixaban both in color and shape! Pharmaceutical companies really should avoid things looking so similar!

I remember being equally concerned at the time but it really isn't a great deal and you are not likely to start bleeding spontaneously unless you have some special condition. Just take special care until the time comes for your next tablet. The 'half life' is just 12 hours so after that period you will have likely eliminated all the apixaban and a larger dose does not stay longer in your body.

There have been many posts here on just this. The true answer must be that you will have to wait for 12 hours or so before you know, but, more seriously, I think the answer is that you'll be fine.

If it were me, bit whether this is sensible or not, I would spend the next twelve hours not taking any risks of falling and similar. If you want confirmation, also, I think I would speak to a pharmacist or your GP's surgery.

I'm not sure if it was within 2 hours, but it might have been. I took all my night time pills, thinking I was late taking the morning ones. This was just 2 or 3 days ago. I didn't take any when the night doses were due, I just waited for the morning time and took some then. No ill effects so far.

i once took two of my rivaroxaban in one day. Phoned the poison hotline and they said just too watch for unusual bruising and perhaps avoid shaving or risky activities for 24 hours.

karger.com/cra/article/6/1/... - This is useful information. An 'accidental' extra one per day per this article should be OK and consult your doctor.
