Hello. I read a post here awhile back where a Cardiologist was mentioned in relation to successful ablations etc. l think it may have been Sheffield or Leeds?

l think l may need another Ablation and am reluctant to return to the hospital which performed the last one.

Much appreciated

Jean, I thought he was a cardiothoracic surgeon, which would tally for Mni Maize, rather than a cardiologist?

You may be right CD. I am no expert on any processes other than what I've had myself - RF ablations. Hopefully I got the name right which is what Blugene was asking.

Your right CD he is a cardio thoracic surgeon but also works closely with the EPs . The whole team at Sheffield are superb. I agree and see no issue in naming drs if in a positive way.

I don't, myself, think naming consultants is a useful thing and might not even be ethical. If you had a problem, I would discuss this with your GP and find a different local doctor.

I can say that the Leicester Glenfield has just installed the latest catheter PF equipment and a well respected team, but that is in the public domain since the professor there is the chairman of the cardiac society.

I suppose it depends on the context of how they were named. I have researched various Cardiologists etc.

There are potential legal implications in naming professional people, I suspect.

I think ethical concerns are limited to direct advertising, not recommendations. I’ve had named recommendations directly from AFA - which is the another source of reliable information. Most private insurers list the consultants they have approved and work with - publicly available from their website.

In the US advertising is perfectly acceptable.

Thanks - yes. There aren't many ways in the UK (and this is a UK based website) to find how effective, experienced or otherwise a doctor is. Personal anecdotes are notoriously unreliable, of course, for the most obvious of reasons.

I have seen several doctors named both with recommendation and the opposite. Given that all we have is personal experience, I can't, myself, think it is correct or even useful to give a personal view. One person's admiration is another's criticism. If I had been the doctor given some of the things I have read on other forums, I would be in touch with my lawyers (as they probably did).

I think it is unethical.

I doubt any legal issues would arise from naming a doctor in a positive or informative manner in the UK. As mentioned, it is very difficult to get meaningful info. About Drs and services offered so I'm guessing this information sharing is to be encouraged.

Well said and, yes, I’m sure so (but my point was that anecdotes are not always positive or meaningful).
