Appointment with Interventional Cardiologist

Awful

I went with all my reports of AFib and the information the Arrhythmia nurse gave me and he just ripped it all up and said to stay on the same medication and he will see me in 6 months and think about another cardioversion. The reason I was referred is because of a possible ablation. The doctor was rude and clearly needed some lesson in good bedside manner!

Rude, rude person! Did he really tear up your reports?

I can't believe this. Did he actually physically tear up your paperwork?? How rude can you get. I would not let that go.

I don't know about bedside manners. He needs a lesson in manners , full stop.

Yes he snatched my paperwork off me and ripped it up and put it in the confidential paper bag. I couldn’t believe it I was made to feel like I was wasting time like what are you wasting my time for and I know there will have been a meeting before referring me

That's terrible. Hopefully copies exists of your paperwork and I would definitely take them to a different doctor..

You said, "interventional cardiologist".

An Interventional cardiologist primarily treats blockages of the heart while an electrophysiologist deals with arrhythmias..

So unless this doctor is trained in both, which is unusual, you really want to be seeing an electrophysiologist (ep). Or if you've been diagnosed with CAD. (Coronary artery disease) then you would see both.

Just a little information I have had a cardioversion before and hated it I wasn’t fully under anaesthetic and felt the paddles and sometimes I wake up hearing the banging of the paddles and the consultant mentioned ablation and the nurse raved about it and the EP has made me fear cardioversion

Are you in persistent AF? I can’t understand why the consultant behaved like that (apart from being rude and arrogant) but something must have annoyed him? How did the conversation go before he had the tantrum? Did you refuse a cardioversion? Because if so you wouldn’t cope with an ablation and without a successful cardioversion it might be a waste of time doing the ablation. I’m not saying it’s your fault, just that you should have had an explanation so you’d know what you needed to do to qualify for the ablation. He’s obviously one of those with a God complex 🤨

This seems to be happening so much these days. Everyone seems angry. Get rid of him if you can and go see an EP. You can go privately for initial appointment which shouldn’t be expensive and then be transferred by him back to nhs. Then make a complaint to the hospital trust regarding this arrogant doctor.

Not fully informed on your system, however what you suggest seems to be the best of both worlds. . Pick the EP you want and book a private consultation, which is significantly quicker than going through the NHS system. Then have him refer you back to the NHS,, for the more expensive treatment options such as ablation.

So by skipping the often time consuming GP-Cardiologist-- ep , NHS progression, you can get that treatment sooner and hopefully by the EP you picked. Hope I got that right!

That is exactly right. It’s getting to be the norm. here with waiting lists so long . It’s a good loophole, so hope it continues.

Following on from Cavalierrubie ............. not just to the Hospital Trust BUT to your MP requesting he take this up with the Secretary of State for Health and the Professional Body to whom this piece of dross is associated to.

Absolutely outrageous. You must complain about this arrogant moron . You'd have been better off seeing a vet!PALS

Really sorry you had this. Shows the respect he has for the AF nurse too.

In the meantime as others have suggested ,get a private appointment with an EP to start the ball rolling.
