Hi all. I am in 30 mg edoxaban daily at 5 pm. This morning I have taken one by mistake this morning at 7.30 am. Is this dangerous? Should I try to contact a doctor ? Thanks.

If you can contact your GP then may be a good idea to ask when you should take your next dose.

I have to say I have accidentally double dosed on Apixaban but that is a smaller dose taken twice daily, but nothing terrible happened and my GP didn’t want to know but watch yourself today and drink plenty of water to help your kidneys wash through the meds.

Many thanks. Good advice

I would contact your pharmacist - usually easier to contact than GP or 111 in UK and ask - especially ask about when to take your next dose.

Many thanks. I asked my pharmacist just now. He said 30mg is a reduced dose. 60 mg is normal. I am on a reduced dose as I am also on Donedarone which increases the strength of Edoxoban. However it has a half life of 12 to 14 hours so up to half the potency of yesterday’s dose is gone. He said it is safe to take my 5 pm tablet today as usual. I give all this information in case it is useful to others.

I am on a 30 dose. I was on 60 until they realised that my weight was too low to need that amount.

Obviously being on 60mg when you should have been on 30mg caused you no serious bleeding problems which is great. Keep well!

my personal take is it depends how long, months or years you've been on the stuff. If say 6 months or longer and if you have no other serious medical conditions I would wait till 5 pm tomorrow. If you take your normal dose at 5pm today you increase the risk of a bleed. Otherwise talk to pharmacist or NHS help line.

Thanks. I am checking with my doctor. He is phoning me after lunch. Let’s see what he says

Hi again. Well my GP had contradicted the pharmacist. I am not to take Edoxaban today but start again at my usual time. There will be enough in my system to give me some protection and I am low risk anyway it seems.

Sounds sensible to me.

My pharmacist accidentally gave me 60mg instead of 30mg which I took for 4 days before noticing. I had a reaction which caused itching all over. I contacted him and was told to stop taking any for one day and then revert to my normal dosage. He said no harm would have been done. He did telephone me every day for a couple days to check up on me. I now check I have been given the correct dosage for my medication!

Glad it worked out for you. I check all my meds when I renew my prescription. We all make mistakes.
