withdrawal symptoms Edoxaban

Weird one this . No one ever mentions problems stopping anti coagulants . I forgot to take morning dose , only realised when I started to get high anxiety later in the afternoon . Rang pharmacist who said just miss the dose and take tomorrow as normal.

Anxiety and not feeling great Finally got to sleep only to be woken at 1230am with racing heart, panic and back and legs with burning sensation . Took a tablet thought I ve been without 16 hours and am officially into the next day . Anxiety has settled but still being woken few times a night with palpitations and burning. Had a trawl online and this is well documented with xarelto.

I have problems with any drug that crosses the blood brain barrier , had similar problems with Bisoprolol. Of course worried in case I had a bleed or needed surgery and had to stop them abruptly . No symptoms at all taking them

Like Tigger am I the only one ? I filled in a yellow card and reported it to the MHRA

probably not very helpful Peony, but despite the use of a dosette box, alarms and a helpful wife, over the years I have managed to miss the second evening dose several times. Apart from maybe feeling daft and a bit anxious, I’m not aware of it having any real affect, so it will be interesting to hear what others say

Thank you for replying . It will be a minority who have problems . Often seems to be third of the population. People on here often mention going in and off them for various reasons without mentioning bad effects I guess I am just unlucky. Wish I had stuck to my guns and continued with aspirin as I have only had two episodes and chadvasc points for age and being female

I'm still with you on that one Peony. At 78 my Chad's score is now 3 because of age and gender so I'm classed as high risk but average 1 episode every 10 months and am fit as a butchers dog. I hate taking Apixaban but still got up at 3 this morning because I hadn't taken night time dose.

I wonder about going back on aspirin despite having a stroke then. The anticoagulants all make me ill, my life is no longer living, yet promise no guarantees. My friend had a second nasty stroke while on Xarelto but she's back on them again. When I mentioned that to my private cardiologist he said "Strokes, strokes, some people just get strokes, no difference Apixiban, Riveroxaban, makes no difference, they still get strokes."

Am not a doctor and cannot advise you what to do . My father must have had AF in his late seventies probably a couple of years before it was discovered it was permanent . No stroke . My friends fit husband aged 50 found out he had AF when he had a stroke and crashed into a tree . ( full recovery ) Using Chadvasc he wouldn’t have been anti coagulated even if they knew about the AF . Which would appear to bear out what your cardiologist said am sure he has seen many such examples . Certainly it seems DOACS are not a guarantee you won’t stroke . Very difficult I completely agree

My husband has had afib since a boy in school, he was just used to it, but only a few years ago it was discovered and doctors insisted he needed anticoagulants but he refused. He's 72 and, touch wood, healthy and still doing a heavy job.

Yes am wishing I had stuck to my guns. Only had two episodes two and s half years apart and yet am taking this stuff which is not without risk everyday

Thank you my friend . 🤣 I got up at 3 this morning because having taken the missed dose at midnight the first night I am trying to inch the dose back round to breakfast time without further upsetting my body . I now feel like am on a roller coaster I can’t get off because I had such a bad time coming off the bisoprolol and that was weaned, it’s going to be awful if I suddenly have to stop

Scared to take them and scared to stop 🤔 .

That's fascinating and might be something specific to a particular metabolism. I had to have a small op on a benign rectal polyp last Wednesday and haven't been able to restart my apixaban yet owing to continued bleeding - worryingly now as it almost a fortnight without it!

Hope it heals for you soon . Fortunately I have had to take very few medications in my life so far and not been a good experience. Antibiotics make me feel awful while taking them, beta blockers both on and worse coming off, anticoagulant no symptoms on but awful even delaying dose by several hours . Anything that crosses blood brain barrier . My husband is like Teflon . Takes all sorts of pills never a side effect or a problem

It might also be an aspect of your liver enzymes. I have read that some people have different levels of these and these affect the metabolism, absorption and action of certain drugs. I was once prescribed an SSRI table for anxiety during a tragic time in our lives when we lost several family and friends over a very short period. Well, instead of helping, the tablets had very much a reverse effect and caused me truly untold misery that went on for a very long time indeed. I was told that a small percentage of people have a specific gene that causes this.

Sorry that happened to your family and you had that experience I can relate to Steve . You are right . Clearly I have a physical variation that causes my body to react in this way . Similarly my first AF experience was after taking Celebrex which in minority of people affects the calcium channels in their hearts. I am not wired for drugs !! I am very very keen on lifestyle tweaks rather than taking drugs

Seems I am on the flip side of your reaction - have missed evening meds on occasion without problems except for the heart pill that controls rate; that one I usually feel and then take half a pill to counter the highs!
