Inhad a. First ablation in January for Persistent AF. Was then put on Amiodarone a month later to calm things down. Went back into NSR from mid Feb. Came of medication in May and have been in NSR until this week. It’s gone out three times and lasts 10 mins or so and goes back to NSR. My cardiologist has said he would look at second ablation if it returns and I seee him in two weeks. He said the seconn may be more involved with more mapping. Some have said it could be more successful. Any thoughts or experiences.

Bad luck. Has the ablation made the AF more bearable or different?

I was told a second ablation might be needed to stop my AF and palpitations, but I am still awaiting the first for this.

Hi EatPorridge , you asked for my experience on amiodarone. I took it for just over a year first as a PIP, then regularly following virtually permanent AF/ATac . I found it made my skin very very sensitive to the sun and put crystals in my eyes which I didn't know about until the optician told me. It hasn't affected my vision.. But the main problem was lung damage. Mentioned to my cardiologist feeling tired and asthma seemed worse and he referred me instantly to a respiratory consultant who diagnosed ground glass nodules across my lungs. Had to come of the amiodarone straight away and luckily my lungs cleared up after 3 months though I did spend a night in hospital having been unable to breath. Had an ablation which luckily has cured most of my AF and now have gone back onto verapamil.

The only caution I would make would to be aware of any symptoms and get a referral straightaway. My GP dismissed my tiredness and brethlessness when I mentioned it in May despite being on amiodarone whilst the cardiologist referred me straight away n September. I should have insisted on a referral in May and as a result spent another 4 months on a drug that was damaging me. But as said above all OK now! Not sure if that info helpsor not?
