Hi All,

I have persistent AF since Oct 21, 3 failed cardio version, borderline Sleep Apnea (seen consultant - a year ago, got follow up February 2025). Plus all the joys that go with this.

I require surgery on my hand, due to Dupuytren, will be third surgery, but first time with PAF. I have seen surgical nurse and been told I will be staying in after operation, and seen the Anaesthetist, who has referred back to Cardio consultant, to ask them if they are happy for me to go under general anesthetic. Got to wait 3 months for an appointment now.

Anyway, question is, anyone else experienced this delay, or had surgery lately with AF and what was your experience like.

I had a general anaesthetic for a surgical procedure 18 months ago, the surgeon was unconcerned about my background of PAF It went well. I did however experience Afib a few days later.

This is the key, to insure the surgeon consults with your cardiologist. Plus if you are taking an anticoagulant to determine when to stop/start.

May want to consult with your cardiologist's office to monitor.

I had a colonoscopy in April, both coordinated, and all went well. Am sure yours will also.

I had a colonectomy last week under general anaesthetic and was in AF when I had the surgery. Remained in AF for a couple of days afterwards but no ill effects.
