fatigue wit afib. Will ablation help?

I have had increased fatigue and less ability to exercise since I have had afib and aflutter with high heart rate the last 7 years. I am finally having an ablation in August. Has anyone found it helps with fatigue. I really can’t make it through a day now without a nap, and must sleep at least 7-9 hrs at night in addition. Any heavy exercise can also put me in afib. Would love to think ablation will help.

Maybe, if you allow yourself to heal during the recovery period and go gentle on the exercise for some months. It’s so individual and depends on age and fitness level so the younger and fitter you are, the more likely but you really won’t know till it’s done so don’t expect too much, too soon.

Thank you for your response. I know at my age I will need to heal slowly. Just a bit curious about how others fare. I put this off for years because I feared the recovery would cost me precious time and energy, perhaps foolishly. Now I am hoping it will give back some. As I have told my doctors and family, I have felt like a balloon with a slow leak for some time now. Thankfully the new ablation procedure is quicker, so less anesthesia and less chance of damage to nearby organs. All good as we age.

I had overwhelming tiredness and had to sleep afternoons and I blamed it all on my AF. Thought it was all part of the condition but it wasn't. It was discovered that I had an underactive thyroid caused by my taking the drug amiodarone. Medication to right this gave me back my life. Have you had your thyroid checked?

Thanks Jean. Latest blood work seems to indicate normal thyroid, but I have wondered. As I said above, have felt like a balloon with a slow leak for some time, but beta blocker may be the culprit.

Afib made me tired, B blocker (bisoprolol) and low thyroid have that effect too for me.

Beta blockers do have a lot to answer for. I'm sure that if they slow down the heart they must slow down other parts of the body too.

Hi,I had an ablation 3 years ago and felt great a week or so after, I was back in sinus rhythm and it made a big difference.

Unfortunately I am now back in AF and hoping that another ablation might be the answer.

The recovery time was less than a week and I was in and out of the hospital in a day.

Good luck

thank you. Sorry to hear your ablation seems to be failing. We know it’s no guarantee.
