Stopping Rivaroxaban

The community cardiac team has changed me from rivaroxaban to edoxaban as the abdominal pain was so bad. I can't get new prescription until later in the week but I stopped the rivaroxaban already, didn't take it yesterday. How long does it take for pain to settle after discontinuing ? Just wondered how many have had to change. Still a bit worried about taking the new one when I eventually get it. I'm also on bisoprolol 2.5mgs which I'm wanting reduced as well.

I changed from Dabigatron (Pradaxa) to Edoxaban for similar reasons some years ago. I can't remember how long it took for my stomach pains to stop but they did and I am fine on Edixaban.

Bonus is it's once a day and no worries about taking it with food.

I would steer away from spicy or fatty foods and not to overeat in one go. That may help your stomach heal.

I'm also on Bisoprolol 5mg but tolerate it well and it does help if I go into AF.

HiLast year when I was diagnosed with AF I was put on edoxaban but it made me violently sick that night. I saw a GP about 2 days later who said that Rivaroxaban wouldn't be 'as heavy on your stomach' and urged me to start it asap. He was right. He also told me I had to take it with food. He also said if it were him, he would take gavuscon with it as well but I reminded him that I was on a PPI, Lansoprazole which cuts down the acid and protects your stomach from meds that can cause gastric bleeding.

Not sure how long you have had AF but its vital to take anticoagulants to prevent a stroke. I would urge you to discuss your concerns again with the GP and or cardiac team but also to take your anticoagulant with food.

Hope you go on alright.

Thankyou Cat715, I was diagnosed with paroxysmal afib in May. I have been taking with food, I've also tried omeprazole or gaviscon. I would have started edoxaban by now but there's been a delay from the gp. The community clinic rely on the gp to write the prescription. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the blood thinner or the bisoprolol causing the problem.

I think the GP should have made it a priority to swiftly issue the script for the anticoagulant. But honestly, my GP definately said that Rivaroxaban is lighter on the stomach than edoxaban.

I am also on Bisoprolol but I halved the dose from 2.5mg to 1. 25mg. I also take it at night instead of the morning as I am asleep when it peaks. It makes me feel tired. My heart rate is often in the 40s at rest but the cardiologist says thats ok as long as I'm not collapsing. I don't have any stomach problems at night.

I also take Lansoprazole every morning half an hour before my rivaroxaban and other medications which I take with food.

I got stomach pains from edoxaban and one other drug I don't remember. I switched to eliquis, and have had no stomach pains since. I have heard similar reports from many other people. Get eliquis if you can. It is the most effective, and has the fewest side effects, as far as I can see.

Thankyou, yes I had been reading that but I was only offered edoxaban as an alternative at the moment. I'm hoping if that doesn't work out I will be offered eliquis.
