I have been told my sodium is low but not given any advice about it. A pharmacist told me it was due to taking Tegretol (anti-epileptic medication). I’ve not been given any advice regarding what to do about the level .
My sodium levels are usually low too, 127 a month ago. I had bloods taken yesterday to check as GP wants to ensure it’s not going to drop further. I don’t take much salt usually, the GP suggested I had more the night before this text. Liver and kidney function tests have been fine.
I'm worried about the high potassium because my cardiologist says that high potassium (over 6) causes an irregular heart rhythm. I could have an episode of Afib.
Hello, my sodium has also been low but my GP said my las blood test showing 125 was dangerously low. He changed my medication and the last blood test was 129.Good luck
Make sure you follow this up with a repeat blood test to see whether this is a longer term trend or whether it’s transient and reverts back to normal. One cause of low sodium is overconsumption of water, or drinking too much water in a short amount of time. It’s important to stay hydrated but don’t overdo it. If you’re not drinking too much water, it’s worth keeping a watchful eye. If your sodium levels drop too low your GP should arrange treatment which might mean having to have a drip at the hospital.
