my husband had a rf ablation yesterday for flutter. Today he woke up with a headache and pain in his shoulders. The shoulder pain has hit worse and now is very painful and he is shivering and cold. Should he sit it out or go to a&e? He is still taking his medication but told to stop diltiazam.

chest pain day after ablation
While some discomfort and symptoms are normal after an ablation, severe pain and shivering are not typical and could suggest something serious like an infection or injury. If you are unable to contact his doctor for guidance, I think a trip to the A&E would be prudent.

Some mild discomfort is to be expected but any real pain MUST be investigated so please seek medical attention.
I got pericarditis after and it was awful. I waited too long. I would go to get care if it persists.
I think a visit to the hospital would be helpful just for peace of mind Oak. Always better to get checked out👍
Ring the ward and talk to them
If it is both shoulders, it's likely from lying in a fixed position for several hours. However, after checking his temperature and blood pressure and carrying out a home ECG (if you have one - Apple Watch, Kardia, Wellue, etc.), as others suggest, I would phone the hospital ablation clinic and ask for advice. This could also be from the anaesthetic wearing off (if he had a GA).

I had a number of side effects directly after my ablation. I remember them taking me back to the ward and I was shaking uncontrollably. I was cold and had a headache with aura migraines for 2 continuous days. The migraines persisted for 10 days and I couldn't sleep well at all. I was distressed, but it all eventually subsided. I am 11 weeks now post ablation and feeling much better. I am sure most of this will pass but if you are concerned it is best checked out, do you have contact to the arrythmia team at the hospital?
hi all, thanks for all of your replies and advice. We rang the ward last night but they just said to go to a walk in centre or A&E if the pain was too bad.
I monitored his blood pressure, heart rate and temperature and did regular ecg’s all were ok. Today he still has the pain but has gone from a 10 to a 2 so hopefully he is on the mend.
He had the procedure done with local anaesthetic and they went in both sides to correct the one he had for af last year.
The day after my ablation it felt like my ribs had been abused and it hurt to breath. The pain was only bad for that day and the next day was much much better and the third day it was gone. Hope that the pain goes away quickly!
