Personal Device to buy for 24hr home ECG.

I had a pulmonary vein isolation procedure 2 years ago for paroxysmal SVT/ ectopics. Been in NSR for two years 😊. Since having Covid booster 6 weeks ago had a return of arrhythmias and SOBE. So back on Apixaban ( had some at home and GP Px some more). Over last few days no daytime arrhythmias 👍, but I'm suspicious that I may be having them at night - so still on Apixaban. I'd like to buy a device that can record a 24hr ECG for times like this and be able to safely come off Apixaban (so I can climb ladders and chop trees again safely!) Any advice gladly received. Thanks Jim

I hear you. Cut myself with a chainsaw last summer, but fortunately not on thinners at the time.

If you can't get your doc to hook you up with a 7-14 day ekg patch -- or simply prefer home monitoring -- check out the Wellue website for their 24 hour portable ekg monitor.

Not as accurate, but you can also get some sense of nighttime episodes with Apple Watch using the afib burden and/or high heart rate and sleep functions.

Good luck and be careful on those ladders cutting trees, thinners or no thinners!

I can recommend also the Wellue 24 hour ECG recorder - it’s my go to for PAF. The app has improved loads so you can take a short reading and send it off for “AI analysis” and it comes back in a minute. Stores data for which you can download for longer periods and check with the PC app. Looks like they’ve got a 72 hour new improved model too.

I use 3M stick on electrodes off eBay - chest strap no good for me.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Jim - that's helpful. Sorry to hear about your chainsaw cut. Mine's locked away until I'm off Apixaban!

The only home device that records for 24 or 48 hours continuously is by Wellue. It's available from Amazon, but has 20% discount on their website, where I and several here have bought theirs from. It works entirely well as it uses sticky chest patches like a doctor's ECG (but only two). I have owned one for a long time now and find it excellent. They have three devices these days like this, the 24-hour one that I have, and a new one with a mini screen that can be had with 24 and 72 hour versions.

Alternatively, an Apple Watch can check for an irregular beat while it is worn. It isn't a continuous check, nor is it checking for AF, but is likely sufficient.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like Wellue device is the one. Might save me on private consultations and ECGs 👍

It certainly will. I find that the clearest result (no surprise) comes when using it while lying down and keeping still (movement will always cause “noise” on the ECG from nearby muscles movement, I gather). Of course it does work while you’re moving about, too. It gives a wonderful AI generated report of all arrhythmias, too.

One point that’s unlikely to matter is if you happen to have left branch bundle block as I have (LBBB). In that case, all home ECGs can sometimes be less reliable in their results. Only a trained specialist can read an LBBB ECG accurately. It’s because of this that mine occasionally says “ventricular tachycardia” (a dangerous rhythm) when the actual rhythm is no such thing.
