meds and tachycardia

hello I’ve now been put on 2.5 of bisop twice per day , flec as pill in pocket or one at night if I want to , they say my ecg s all fine no af , just tachycardia now , just wondering if it’s best to keep a bit of flec in your system to help ? I’ve been on these medications for 13 yrs with no problems, but flec is now making me feel awful , don’t know if it’s the mix with bisop ? I just don’t want things to start up again as I had no problems, just medication side effects , I’m in a terrible state mentality

I can understand your concern totally. You really need to have a chat with a sympathetic GP. I find the lady ones more understanding.

I was taken off of Flecainide because it was causing more problems than helping and I'd been taking it for years. Just on a beta blocker now and feel so much better. Personally I would only take your Flec if having an AF attack but the choice must be yours. Why are you taking it daily if you were told you could use it as a pill in the pocket when necessary?

I was taken flec daily as the fear of having an attack , so now I’m on pip iam constantly waiting for something to happen , so worried as this is a big change for me after 13 yrs , didn’t have no problems, now have tachycardia

Hi, you've really been going through the wringer with your medication haven't you?

I'm no expert on medication, but just reading what you say it seems you have answered your own questions.

You have no AF which is good. And you say you have Flec as pill in pocket or one at night if you want to.

And you say the Flec makes you feel awful.

And you say your only problem is medication side effects.

So it looks like your problem is that you feel worse if you take the Flec daily, but you have been taking Flec for such a long time that you find it hard to stop. You're worried about stopping taking it.

And your mind is all over the shop with the worry.

You wonder if you should keep Flec in your system to help, but it can't be helping you if it makes you feel worse.

You have no AF and have been told you only need Flec as pill in pocket.

Be reassured by this.

You say you are feeling ill with side effects of the medication. If you only take the Flec as pill in pocket you should have less side effects and begin to feel better.

As I said, I'm no expert and if you need reassurance please call your doctor to be sure you are doing the right thing.

But if it was me I would take the bisop and only use Flec as pill in pocket as has been prescribed. And I would expect to see the benefits in a few weeks, once the Flec has had chance to leave my system.

I hope this might help you to think about it in a calmer way, but please call your doctor if you need to. X

Thankyou , I am so worried , flec kept everything ok , but made me feel so ill , told cardiologist this he said strengthen your leg muscles? 🙄I feel like I’m going to pass out on it and have to lay down for ages , is bisoprolol good at controlling tachycardia , I’m just waiting for something to happen constantly can’t settle

Well you've been told you have tachycardia and you have been prescribed bisoprolol for it. So it would make sense that it does control it.

And you say you know how ill the Flec makes you feel, so it would be wise to stop taking it every day as you have been told you don't need it.

But your anxiety has taken you over and is making you ill, you can't see the wood for the trees and you need help with this.

I don't think your doctor realises how severe your anxiety is, which is a big issue for you. Can you call the practice and say you need to see someone about your anxiety? A different doctor will have a different approach.

Call at 8am as this seems to be the best time to get a quick appointment.

That's what I would do if it was me. I would call the practice at 8am and ask to see someone about my anxiety.

I hope you get help soon. X

I do have paramoxyl af , but when I have ecg and tapes done it dosnt show , just recently tachycardia, I’m so worried it will start again once flec is out my system, but the bisop has increased , which is making me feel sick in mornings on waking ,I’m lost keep having panic attacks and don’t feel like me anymore, doctors have prescribed me antidepressants, but to scared to take them incase they effect my heart as most all say can cause fast heart or arrhythmias, just feel so hopeless

Antidepressants aren't always the answer on their own, especially if you don't take them, but the anxiety is stopping you from taking them.

Anxiety is an illness that needs professional help, and I think you need to speak to someone like a counsellor who will listen and understand your anxiety and get you back on track.

I think you should ask your GP practice to refer you for counselling or maybe cognitive behaviour therapy.

You don't need to be referred, you can refer yourself to get help from 'Talking Therapies' on the NHS. You can look on the NHS website, I'm sorry I can't give you contact details because I don't know what area you live in, or you could ask your GP practice to give you the contact details.

And Age UK offer free counselling so it's always worth giving them a call.

I'm not a doctor or counsellor but I am concerned about you, this has been going on for some time.

If it was me I would call my GP practice and tell the receptionist I want to be referred for counselling for my anxiety. And if they told me to self refer I would ask for the contact details.

They should be helpful, it's their job to be helpful.

I wish you well x

you can’t take flecanide without being on a beta blocker but there are alternatives- I was adamant I didn’t want to use a beta blocker again when my af recurred after my first ablation as I needed to lose weight to have my knee replaced. I’m now on diltiazem 120mg twice a day and only use the beta blocker as the pill in pocket when I have breakthrough af episodes and this all works fine with me but obviously may not suit everyone

totally agree with Ilovedogs12. I take 1.25mg Bisoprolol morning and evening and have Flecainide as pip. I too suffer with anxiety and can’t stop worrying. I have just started councelling and hope this will help. Some people just get on with things, but for us worriers life is a struggle. So I know exactly how you feel. Think about the councelling. It will help. Good luck.

I've got an arrythmia and I've learnt to ignore it on the whole. Lots of people have arrythmias especially in the later stages of life. I came off biso some time ago and doctor agreed that I could use it as pip if I was having a persistent problems, so that's what I do (but don't use it much, turns me into a couch potatoe). If you're able ( and doctor is happy) do some daily walking...great for the mind and heart.

I realy want to get back to work , but I’m so worried as I don’t want my heart to start racing , do you suffer much not being on meds

maurice2 profile image
maurice2 in reply toProsecco1997

I am on meds...apixaban. My doctor wasn't happy for me to stop or reduce that or use it as a pip. So you have to pay attention to what they're advising. Remember that your 100bpm is normal for some people...perhaps it's become normal for you? I don't know. But some exercise (if you're doctor is happy and it's gentle enough not to increase your hear rate too much) may be a way of returning to some normality (physical and mental). Our bodies are designed to be used, to be active, after all and light exercise has a way of reminding us that we're alive and functioning.

Not what you're looking for?
