Persistent Permanent Afib. Any alternative to Lopressor??? Titrating to control heart rate 100mgm twice a day too much which is my Cardiologists goal 100mgm in am and 50mgm in pm too much. 50 in am and 50 in pm not enough. Was fine on 25/25 but that was when I was in NSR after cardioversion for two years. Now cardioversion does not work. Symptomatic on higher doses Wobbly blurred vision etc. Also on Eliquis. Has anyone had experience with Pulmonary Vein Isolation Ablation? I may be a candidate for this. How big of a deal and what is the recovery time I am 84 in general good health but do not feel good lately (past six months) when in the persistant afib Any advice help would be much appreciated.

Hi

BBs did not control heart rate.

I struggled since Stroke Embolic with Rapid and Persistent AF then a diagnosis during a Carotid Arteries of Papillary Thyroid Cancer. A shadow showed up as the scanner checked my Thyroid (2 for the price of 1 I can still hear her say). Carotid Arteries were clear.

After 2 years with no follow up from Stroke, Thyroidectomy 12 Lymphs removed with dissection of Lymph central (2 infected), and 2 BBs 1 - Metapolol with 186bpm which caused breathlessness, absolute fatigue and pauses at night. Your Lopressor branches from Metoprolol and when I had it I found protein being lost in my urine.

Not the best med for AFers said the hospital heart specialist after 1 year 4 months she changed me to Bisopolol. But again 156 and dr just upping my dose and this was on 24-hr heart monitor to 10mg (5mg x twice).

New Locum Dr interested referred me to private Heart Specialist.

Game changer introduced me to CCB Calcium Channel Blocker. I started on 1/2 dose 180mg Diltiazem.

Talked to our Healthline Dr on duty Sunday. Then NZ Heart Foundation Nurse who knew this Specialist.

Carefully twinked to a successful REGIME.

120mg Diltiazem CCB AM to control h/rate

2.5mg Bisoprolol BB PM t control BP.

Been on it 2 years 5 months now. Lost 6 kg and again my H/rate from 88-96 to 60s.

I could never have had the 3 operations for Mesh Removal and R Shoulder Rotor Cuff. I was on Metoprolol 4 months after Stroke for Thyroid Cancer. I had 2 Drs/Surgeons and 2 Anaesthetists.

I call that a real Success as I can't have cardioversion, ablation or anti-arrhymic meds as my heart structure is abnormal. Damage there. The size of the heart has improved back to normal size but severe dilation of my Left Atrial and low R.Ventricle regurgitation. A soft Systollic Heart Murmur new diagnosis 2022.

Go for trying CCB. It changed my life, for improvement for life.

Cheers Joy. 75. (NZ)
