Has anyone had 5 or more ablations? I’ve had 5 and still having pvcs and afib. 3 were at Cleveland Clinic.

I know there are, I saw a post where someone is going for their 6th or even 7 th quite recently. I’m not one of them having had only 2.

Hello

I have had 7 ablations over a period from 2007~ 2017.

My case was considered “difficult “ according to my medical notes.

Having said that, after 4 ablations my then EP told me there was nothing more he could do for me and pretty well told me to go away and just put up with it.

A year later I was back in hospital in AF and was treated to another cardioversion which did give me a long period of relief.

Whilst in hospital on this occasion the new EP looked at my case and told me he wanted to try again with another ablation.

There followed another change in EP and 3 more ablations followed the last because I developed Atrial Tachycardia.

That was in 2017. Since then my condition, slowly but surely, improved as the time passed

I have now been AF free for over 2 years.

Because of 30 years + of AF my poor old heart has now got Bradycardia due to conductivity disease. However I feel significantly better than I did during all those awful years of AF. For many years an extra dose of Flecainide did the trick but I also did from time to time have to have a number of cardioversions.

Talk it all through with your EP and make sure you understand it all we are all different so don’t give up.

Pete

I have been afib free since my fifth ablation but have been on amiodarone and now Multaq since then so I’m not sure if it’s the last ablation or anti arrhythmics that are keeping me in sinus.

Have they ever talked to you about having a Node ablation? I’ve only had two ablations and can’t imagine what it’s like to have five.

That has been part of the conversation but being fully paced and the ramifications of that are not that appealing to me. I would like to avoid that as long as possible but I definitely see that in my future.

you might want to look into a MiniMaze with that many unsuccessful ablations. It just may be the missing link. Many who have had multiple unsuccessful ablations have undergone that and are now living AFib free. It addresses the source of the problem, the nerves on the outside of the heart that are very difficult to reach from the inside of the heart.

Certainly something to think about.
