Coronary calcium channel score

Is statin prescribing linked to Coronary Calcium score? In late 60's my recent Angiogram was fine but had a CCS score of 25. From what I've read, Statins do not eliminate existing plaque, but stop it getting worse.

Always ate healthy, since a child being faddy, cut off every bit fat from meat, wouldn'teat offal . No red meat for 35 years, diet mainly fish/chicken breast/ vegetatarian. Lots fruit and veg. Took garlic & Cod liver oil daily until AF struck and on thinners. (Believe they are conflicting with apixaban). Non smoker. Exercised regularly. I don't know what more I could do .

Should I worry about this score?

What was the reason for your recent angiogram? At least in the United States that is not a routine test.

To determine and check that heart was OK before I could be prescribed Flecainide as Pill in the pocket.

At least in the United States, all you need to qualify for Flecainide is to pass an exercise stress test. The more invasive angiogram is reserved for those who did not pass the test.

As to whether or not you should take statins with that calcium score, not sure what the current guidelines are. But there can be other reasons to take statins other than high calcium score.

I have just been put on Flecainide 'pill in pocket,' and my score was over 100... which the consultant said was 'average' for my age [74] Statins starting next week.

I smoked when I was younger... so blaming the number on all those cigarettes. {Stopped in late 40s} Am slim, reasonably fit and eat sensibly ..but family genes have upped the cholesterol. So guess you are probably ok.... I believe it is when the numbers shoot up into 2 and 300 that people need to take greater care.

Sorry I forgot to mention that Statins moved my friend up to a prediabetic diagnosis.

It is the sugars in it I think.

You should have heard her defiant manner when sshe had to cut out bread, honey, sweet deserts.

But she ate more bread than me - 1-2 Vogel at breakfast, 1-2 Vogel at lunch.

SourDough is not chewy.

Or you could toast it.

It comes in wraps and is Gluten Free.

I usually buy it from homemade and market.

Just got my PET/CT Scan. Couldn't do tomorrow. Next Tuesday. RA 5 hours after. Shows up cancer in your body from top to bottom. Shows missing parts!!!!

Fingers crossed just the two tiny lymphs 6mm and 7mm. My Papillary Thyroid Cancer is back.

You could do without it, Joy, but I’m sure with your indomitable fighting spirit, all will be well!

Gluten free sour dough will be made from other than normal flour so will be more cake like, I guess. It’s the flour not the yeast, I guess.

Change your genes? That's the cause, I would guess. I have had palpitations since my youth and I recall my mother had the same. I have lived reasonably healthily, too, and have low blood pressure (the one sign to take the greatest care abut, I gather).

So our friend needs to be reborn to other parents!!!!

I thought palpitations were a result of stressing. It happened to me aged 30s. It was gone when the stress stopped.

Also tinnitus was stress in my 60s.

You’re lucky if you can make such a link. I wish I could. I certainly do stress but at the most stressful times in my life - and my there have been some - I’ve been fine.

I have agreed to take statins as I can’t get the red yeast rice capsules that I used to take whenever blood tests showed higher than acceptable cholesterol. I’ve never been overweight and have a healthy diet etc and just hope the pills aren’t contributing to the digestive problems I never had before having to take these drugs and getting chronic fatigue. I think it’s a box ticking exercise!

My 84 year old friend was put on 40mg statins after running out of her PRADAXA 110 twice daily for a number of days and ended up with a mild stroke in hospital.

She had to stop statins when she got COVID and was offered the anti-COVID med.

Had another fall and died with COVID becoming negative. She did have AF and MS and had a 2nd Mitral Valve manmade

The first was a pig's valve which lasted 12 years then got infected. As they couldn't remove all of it she was on antibiotics daily.

She had missed her 5th and 6th COVID Jab.

Yes, difficult to change ones det at years of it!

And her adopted daughter in late 40s died 2 weeks ago of a brain tumour which was inoperable.

Her adopted father died of bowel cancer aged 40s too.

Just when my husband died of leukaemia who was also diagnosed at 40 s but lengthy illness fllowed and passed at 61.

I have just read that calcium and Vit D promote health against cancer.
