New meds, I will start this Thursday and want to know if anyone has taken this drug and had any side effects!
Nebivolol: New meds, I will start this... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Nebivolol
Yes and no.
I had previously been on 5 mg Bisoprolol daily, taken at night. I was first put on this in January 2010. Working with my Surgery Pharmacist I explained I wanted to come off it all together because I had succumbed to massive brain fog and was feeling like the Zombie from the Land of the Living Dead. She switched me then to 3.75mg of Nebivolol, daily, taken at night.
On a day to day basis at rest, at play or at work there was no noticeable difference EXCEPT ......... no more brain fog or acting like a damn Zombie. At a statistical level there was an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. on Bisoprolol it was averaging around 132/76 with a HR of 63. With Nebivolol it has increased to 136/80 with a heart rate of 70.
Of course this increase may be due to a reduced dose of Nebivolol when compared to Bisoprolol, i.e. 5mg down to 3.75mg.
Apart from that it gives no problems.

Thank you so much that gives me hope because Metropolo makes me feel like brain fog too! Glad my doctor give me Nebivolol instead of Bisoprolol like I thought!
After taking Nebivolol , how long did it take to get rid of your brain fog? I have brain fog for a few years taking Metropolo, and today I started taking Nebivolol! Looking forward to feeling normal!
Can't give a specific answer... there was no magic switch pulled ! very gradually I think over about a week ... I would be very surprised if you didn't feel less brain fog and more alive over gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days. Then suddenly you'll realise your 'normal' again, well, as normal as you can be on these drugs. Hope that helps and please let us know how your experience works out.

Bisoprolol made me feel like a zombie. I react to all sorts of meds/ingredients, but Nebivolol appears to suit me - been on it a couple of years now. If I recall, I didn’t have any side effects when starting it.
Interesting comments as my cardiologist tried to change me to Nebivolol from Sotalol a few years ago. But when I asked him why he just said, 'We don't use Sotalol any more. It's out of date.' It took me lots of questions before he would even explain that Nebivolol was just another beta blocker and kept referring to it by the brand name here in France without explaining why it would be 'better' for me. I only discovered the drug he suggested WAS Nebivolol when I got home and looked it up on the Internet. In consequence I never took it and had no confidence in his advice and aggressive manner as well as the 'Why do you need to know what it is?' attitude. So I am interested in whether Nebivolol is actually an improvement in terms of its overall impact and side effects.
I definitely prefer Nebivolol to Bisoprolol. Less fatigue and less exacerbation of my asthma. Still get the vivid dreams though!
Thanks for your observations. I do suffer increasingly from fatigue with Sotalol as I get older, even though I have taken it for decades. I must discuss Nebivolol with my GP at my next appointment and see whether he thinks it might prove to be better for me, though of course every new drug takes time to adjust to even when it is in the same 'family' of drugs. I hope your vivid dreams are pleasant ones rather than nightmares! 😂
Half and half! I found no problem switching to Nebivolol for when I am in NSR. But it does not lower my heart rate as effectively as Bisoprolol did when in afib. My cardiologist told me to double the dose but that does not cut it so I take more. But as my afib burden is very light less than 2% I' comfortable with that.
I was on 10mg of Bisoprolol, zombie wasn't the word for it and so breathless. Changed to Nebivolol 5mg and then this was halved. What a difference! Been on it over 3 years now. No side effects but still somewhat breathless but I have DCM too.
I switched from bisoprolol to nebivolol on suggestion of my afib nurse team and did find it less troublesome.
I changed from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol about 6 years ago. All the breathlessness and zombie-feelings I associated with Bisoprolol disappeared almost immediately. I have not side effects and take 2.5mg daily.
Nebivolol is cardiac-specific and doesn't act on lung tissue in the way that Bisoprolol does. For me, it is a great success.
I too was on Bisoprolol and found it completely wiped me out - possibly because it lowered my heart rate too much? Switched to Nebivolol 3 years or so ago and tolerate it much better, tho my heart rate and blood pressure are slightly higher, but no other side effects.
my doctor said it didn’t impact lung function in the same way as bisoprolol. It is the beta blocker of choice for those with asthma or copd.
I asked about it and was told it’s very little different from the usual bisoprolol, which my specialist insists is the best first choice. Nebivolol does have a somewhat different way of working, I’ve read.

Interesting, Steve - my cardiologist called Bisoprolol 'the drug of choice' but was OK with my GP changing me to Nebivolol.
Did you your GP give a reason? I once thought that bisoprolol was making me feel tired and I asked to switch to nebivolol (from comments I'd read here). My GP - an excellent doctor - assured me that nebivolol would likely be just the same and that it was much more likely the fast atrial flutter along with the general slowing effect of the beta blocker that was causing the problems I was feeling. He assured me that cost wasn't behind his reasoning (nebivolol costs quite a bit more).

I made a case to him, having also taken advice on this forum, concentrating on the negative direct and knock-on effects on my life. We live on a mountain, so uphill is always a 50% chance and was out of the question on Bisoprolol. He listened and suggested that Nebivolol might help and prescribed it for a month's trial.
At that time (2018) the pricing structure of Nebivolol was weird - 2.5mg tablets were very expensive but 5mg were about the same price as Bisoprolol. Don't know if that is the case now.
I hear Nebivolol has less side effects!
I wonder whether it does have fewer side effects. It's hard to unpick the effects of having heavy and frequent palpitations or AF from the effects of the tablets, for me.
I have just had to increase my daily dose of bisoprolol to 2.5mg and I am not noticing much improvement in my palpitations, and had AF yesterday for four hours, too. What I am noticing is that I have more vivid and negative feeling dreams, which I have read about from others here, as well as cold-feeling toes in bed (but the spring temperatures have been low here).

Is Nebivolol called something else in the UK? I can't see it from searching on the nhs.uk website?
The name of this drug is called Bystolic and Generic name is NEBIVOLOL
I have been on Nebivolol for a couple of years’ or so at various doses. Currently on 5mg daily. Not sure about side effects as I take quite a lot of other meds for my heart as in HF as well as AF so difficult to know what causes what and also what the actual conditions cause but I generally seem to have been OK on it. I do get a bit breathless at times but not sure if this is due to Nebivolol or something else.
I took originally Metropolol and had bad side effects. Fatigue and brain fog. Switched to Nebivolol (Bystolic) and haven’t had a side effect from it at all. 5 mg once a day in the mornings.
That is how I feel and today I am going to take Nbivolol! Thank you very much for your input!
