Atrial fibrillation with variable conduction vertical heart

Was first diagnosed in October 2021, and firstly will say hate taking medication, as done 55 years without!

My BP has a high diastolic reading, 90 to 112.

Recently had a couple of eposides, one of passing out, other double vision for half hour, (third time that has happened since November), both times went to A&E, had CT scan, clear, bloods, clear, and drip and anti dizzy injection, the dispatched home.

I have had 3 cardio versions, all 3 failed, was looking at abilation, but Oxford say risk out weighs the benefits, so will not proceed, looking at more medication instead.

Oxford asked my GP to fo ECG follow up, which was done on Friday and results showed 'Atrial fibrillation with variable conduction vertical heart', so wondering if anyone else has this.

I find i have good days and really bad days, feel heart and breathing all the time, been told cannot work, for several reasons, including depression, mental health, amonst other issues.

I am due surgery on my hand, under GA, however, anesthetist and nurse, referring back to cardiologist, to make sure im okay to go under. If operation happens, cannot use hand for a few weeks due to recovery.

Got to love life.

Oxford say risk out weighs the benefits,

Do other health issues make this the case, if you care to share ?

What is being done to control your heart rate and blood pressure ?

As 3 cardioversions, did not work or show a positive result, they do not think an abilation will benefit me, and overall risks outweigh the benefits.

On usual meds, but need a review, to change these and hopefully get better control.

Thx for the reply.

Likely makes sense with 3 failed cv’s. That said there are members here who had success with the maze procedure.

As   BobD often says, any treatment for afib is about quality of life. If you are comfortable keep on. But at 57, you may be an ideal candidate for the maze procedure. Best to You !

I have had AF for around 14 yrs. I now take one edoxaban daily. I know what you mean about taking meds but really you do get use to it. Otherwise I lead a life much as before, often out drinking & dancing!

I think "AF with variable conduction" just means "AF". The "vertical heart" I had never heard of till your post but a quick look on the internet suggests a range of possible things and is something I would ask my GP about or want and echocardiogram / MRI to reveal more.

And yes, as you say, life can be a trial.

I recommend getting a second opinion and a full explanation of risks/benefits, preferably with an EP. In my experiences you should not have to live with "really bad days" especially at 57! Best of luck to you!
