Flu shot debate, I've noticed a decline

My mom is 94 and a sibling took her for a flu shot without my knowledge. I then visited my mom about 10 days later and noticed her blood pressure was up to 198, even while lying down. I took her to immediate care where they brought it down but it continues to stay higher than usual and the cardiologist has had to add an additional blood pressure med. In addition, I've noticed her to be more fatigued and out of breath, and more noticably cognitively declined. I'm curious any other experiences with a flu shot for someone so elderly. Medical messaging promotes it for all ages, and especially older folks with heart issues, but at the same time I've learned about the lack of antibodies in older people and the permeability of the blood brain barrier as people age--resulting in more (and sometimes permanent) brain inflammation as the brain reacts to the vaccine antigens and toxins, and the possibility of inflammaging (when the inflammation becomes permanent)--leading to cognitive decline (including dementia and Alzheimer disease). And while the flu shot is strongly recommended for those with heart issues, she is more noticably fatigued and out of breath. (We're in the USA.)

Has anyone else had similar observations or experience after a flu vaccine in an older person?

thank you

No more vaccines 'strongly recommended' or otherwise for me without individual independent research ignoring MSM and certainly not more than one together. I have read too much about the side effects and the commercial promotion when unnecessary.

My husband is ninety, insists on having flu and COVID shots - together. I have noticed a marked cognitive decline in recent weeks - shots he had were in Nov. I have my own theory of why has declined so quickly but we have recognise at over 90 the cardio vascular system is fragile, the body is not going to renew itself as it once did, the immune system is failing through age and we are going to fail - sometime soon!

I think it very sad when family members work against each other, it can lead to blame and discord so I would urge you for the sake of your mother’s well being to talk to all of your family and agree a course of action for your mother.

Cognitive decline can also be put down to micro clots, Vascular Dementia, which anticoagulants and BP meds will help.

Whilst I personally will never take another shot for all of the reasons you describe, my husband is still cognitively competent enough to make his own decisions. You didn’t say whether or not your mother was or was not in favour of having the shots? If she still retains legal competence I don’t think you or your siblings have a say, either way if you are to respect your mother.

My very best wishes, it’s not easy to care for someone who’s body is failing, as I very well know!

we had our flu snd covid vaccs last October and although my husband did have short term memory loss before then, I’ve noticed that he had been worse since then and the last letter from hospital said mild dementia. Possibly the same thing but definitely a sharp decline after the covid shot although flu jab was close to that

I hope your mum gets better soon

The days of trusting vaccines, post-CV, are OVER! I read that they're combining the CV vax with flu injections now so I'd check on that also.

I wonder in people over 90 what the chance of decline are in general, it could be nothing to do with the vaccine that they had.

This is purely my own reasoning: Since 2020, I would say do t get any shots. For every shot there will be either something like your poor Mom experienced or something in your body that will cause a future problem. To be safe don’t get any shots ever!

My husband has had all flu shots and l notice a decline in his thought processes … he isn’t nearly that age; however, l refused the last one because l don’t trust in them any longer. I have never had Covid but my husband has had it in spite of taking all flu shots and so have most of my friends … so what’s the point. “They” recommend flu shots … who are “They”. Your poor mom … l hope that she gets better. Best, Jan Maree

I helped to support a charming old man of 90 years old last year and although he had evidence of a little cognitive decline and had a few other conditions Type 2 diabetes, a little arthritis in one shoulder and a cataract he was otherwise aging well.

In September I took him for a haircut ( with his family’s knowledge). Shortly after that we all noticed a sharp worsening in his hitherto gentle cognitive decline. No vaccines involved. He’s now in care.

Hi

Oh Dear.

My mum got awful colds after the flu injection.

I decided not to have them. I am 75. She was 80s when she told me, I was working in UK 6 years.

It's all a bit of a risk.

I do have the COVID jabs I've had 6. On the 2nd the nurse did not put it into the muscle and I got a huge red itchy spot and needed antibiotics.

I hope it gets better for her. If NO FLU INJECTION is put on her record. NO ONE can take her for one.

cheri JOY. 75. (NZ)

As a retired RN who lives in the US I am no longer comfortable with these vaccines. When we have not improved cancer treatment or outcomes over the past 50 years but could manufacture a covid vaccine in less than 6 months for a totally unknown virus. This puts me on a very concerned thought. So now not even taking flu vaccine. Too many side effects.
