All tablets ending in ...'lol' are beta blockers. I had been on Propanolol for over 20 years of which one year was with Flecainide.I had tried quite a few BB in my life but always went back to Propanolol as I never had a problem with them.

I’ve just took my propranolol for tonight as worried if I take flecinide aswell might drop heart rate to much ? Did you always take flecinide and propranolol at the same time , or leave a gap in between taking

I’ve been on flecinide for 13yrs , but just worried about side effects from combining the 2 , Thankyou for your help

Flecanide does not act on heart rate, just the rythym. You are advised to take a beta blocker alongside Flecanide in any case surprised you were not on one already.

I take one at night with flecanide and the rest of my tablets

It's the same family of drugs, anything ending in 'lol' is a betablocker type. Xx

Yes, I am on Propanolol instead of Disopyramide which I had been on for 20 years and it went out of manufacture, I was worried too about the change but needn't have worried, I also take Bisoporal and taking them together, at the same time, didn't work for me so I take the Propanolol first thing with breakfast, as it says to be taken with food, and the Bisoporal an hour or so later and all seems to be well. I think I may have told you this before, if so I apologise for repeating lol, its down to old age!

I was on propanolol for a year and cried for an hour or more every day. The day I stopped it I also stopped crying. Tried it one time a couple of years ago and cried again so I won't be going back again ever. Not a problem for many here so good luck to you.

Not yet. Gradually, I have become intolerant of most beta blockers. I have been using betaxolol but I am still depressed by beta blockers. Trying Verapamil again tomorrow. Took it years ago but it does cause constipation for me. I've tried Hawthorn and Arjuna with some success but it's difficult to assess the AFib. I have a pacemaker and my pulse always shows in the mid-sixties.

I also noticed that after a couple of weeks on this, I was becoming depressed - which is not my tendency... anxious at times yes. I stopped and it went away. This is no reason not to try as it does work well for many.. . and I went back to "normal" when I stopped hence - don't fear trying it !

I would certainly try them and keep a very positive mindset that they absolutely are going to help. That will be the best course of action, I would say, from long experience of such treatments.

What are the awful side effects that you've been having, by the way? Do you mean from the flecainide or from. the anxiety?

Propranolol was the first discovered beta-blocker tablet, if I recall, and is often given to treat anxiety and, so far a I know, is helping thousands of people with it, even though, the last time I looked, there was no solid medical evidence to show its effectiveness. I have read that many stage performers and similar take a tablet of propranolol before a performance to calm their nerves.

What a beta-blocker does for people with AF is to (try to...) prevent the heart racing. The idea is that this will also help to reduce the anxiety that can arise in some people when this happens. It has no direct effect on anxiety, only this indirect effect.

I would say - fingers crossed and with luck and a following wind, you'll be feeing better soon.

I’m fine on flecinide , it’s the bisoprolol , I get a feeling of like I’m going to pass out , life draining from me , sometimes feel like I need to keep moving , walking quick etc due to a dropping feeling , feel realy heavy , and a tight stomach , fingers crossed as I’m due to take flec and propranolol together soon , thanks for your reply

I don't think you're alone with that weird feeling. Anxiety can very easily, and "invisibly", magnify side effects, especially heart related. These easily then become overwhelming. I wish you luck as these things are hard going, often hard to treat, and can affect the quality of life negatively. Worse, doctors can be not so very helpful as there's little they can do, I suppose.
