New meds

Morning everyone.I have started 2 new meds as of yesterday, Digoxin and Apixaban.

I am normally fairly robust when taking anything and haven't noticed many side effects previously when taking notorious meds like amiodarone.

Since yeserday I have had a funny taste in my mouth and had an upset stomach as well although that seems better today.

What are people's experience of these meds and are their any tips on when best to take them?

Thanks

l don’t take Apixaban, but Digoxin l am unable to take as it upsets my stomach. Perhaps yours will settle down.

I think I'm going to keep taking both for a week and see how I feel, I know there are proven benefits of taking these meds I just don't like feeling reliant on them. Thanks

I think it a good idea to continue your treatment. It will most probably settle down when your body gets used to the drugs. I couldn’t take them because l was straight in the bathroom 10 minutes after taking Digoxin and it was as if l had had an enema. Hope it goes well for you.

I had terrible heartburn on Digoxin although no one else seemed to think it was a side effect. Eliquis does not seem to bother me. I tried really hard on the Digoxin as I wanted to get off Lopressor but just could not tolerate.

I take apixaban (not digoxin) and have had some minor upset stomach issues which the doctor recommended I take after a meal to help with this issue and this has helped a lot. Also bruising that takes longer to go away which is not unusual and is minor. But I do not have any funny taste in the mouth with apixaban. That unusual taste may be related to your digoxin???

I'm taking the apixaban twice a day and the first one is very early (around 7am) and I just can't eat then. I have read thar digoxin is quite toxic so I'm sure there will be side effects with that.

Thanks for the reply

I have been on Digoxin since November. It is an established medication and has proved to be effective in controlling my Af. I also take endoxaban - a coagulant. I did find Iwas nauseous to begin with, but am happy to say I am. Much better now. See how things go and if it persists talk to your Doctor. I also have asthma, which is the reason My Gp put me on Digoxin. The newer meds are not suitable if you have asthma.

OK thanks for the info.I suppose I need to give my body time to adjust to the new meds and can always change to others if I don't settle.

Take care
