has anyone found oats make their ectopic beats worse?

I have porridge and oat milk with flax chia hemp walnuts pumpkin and sunflower seeds for breakfast and have started to wonder if they worsen my ectopic beats?

Try organic rolled/flaked buckwheat (not the seeds) instead of porridge. I'm a lot better using that. I asked in my health food shop what I could use instead of oats.

I add much the same ingredients as you, apart from the walnuts and also add dates, sultanas and either cinnamon or ginger powder. I use lactose free semi skimmed milk too. I cook it in the microwave for 2 mins, stir and then put back for another 2 mins.

Hi,

Can't really answer your question a such. However, when I was first diagnosed with paroxysmal AF it later became obvious that the trigger was food ! I consulted a Nutritionist who straight away suggested I go Gluten, Wheat and Oats free. She also taught me to compile a food diary which disciplined me into noting a wide range of other foods which would create a dysfunctional vagal nerve. Inflammation of the vagal nerve, and I do suggest you read up on this nerve and its brain, heart and gut relationship.

Needless to say I do not get involved in any of those products you have listed. Suggest you cut out all that stuff and replace it with something ... don't ask me what ! Wait and see what happens. Indeed my live style is about as unhealthy as it can get.

I started my journey in Jan 2010. I have not had any AF for some 4 years now, just medication and diet. Sorted.

I’ve eaten organic oats daily for years and never had a problem with ectopics, eating food too fast or overeating is my problem with ectopics

I have organic jumbo oats with 1/2 organic full fat milk and 1/2 water, no problems.

Any carbs for breakfast always irritated my gastric system which irritated my heart. Now I stick to fruit, yogurt with nuts and seeds or/and eggs or half an avocado.

Try barley flakes instead. I have done the ZOE programme and have found that oats cause more of a blood sugar spike than barley flakes. They take longer to cook so I soak them the night before.

I was told there is a lawsuit against Quaker oats for using growth chemicals on oats,to stunt height of plant for ease of harvesting. Also one for anti mould. Wonder if connected?

Inorganic oats can have glyphosate used on them as a drying agent as well.

Try soaking the oats first. I cook mine with water. At night, I place just under the amount needed to cook. Add a little citric acid in the form of lemon juice. Leave overnight and cook normal way. For me, I use microwave. I also include dates, mixed dried fruit, prunes, nuts and omega 3 seeds. I use soya milk with a splash of kefir milk. Never had any issues. Stops you snacking until lunchtime. For completeness, I drink two glasses of warmed filtered water first. The first glass contains 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and Nigella seeds., turmeric. I'll leave you to do your own research as to why. Works well for me.

Your breakfast sounds delicious. I have been having hot water with ginger first thing in the morning but I’m a bit worried ginger might not be a good idea for AFib. To be honest, I haven’t had it for long enough to know which foods affect my heart. I’m definitely going to try your breakfast though

I find breakfast is a time when my ectopic beats and mild tachycardia often come on. I haven't narrowed it down to a specific food and would question whether porridge oats, per se, would be a cause, but you can test this easily.

I have come to the conclusion that it is caused by the food bloating or stretching the tummy and pushing it up against the diaphragm, and then that into the base of the heart. I had this once happen for other reasons while being X rayed and was told it can set off ectopic beats and tachycardia.

I wonder if it's the Hemp seeds. While I have not tried them, I have tried hemp oil for pain and wow did it set off some ectopic heart beats! Needless to say, I stopped taking it immediately! just my 2 cents worth....

I was having them before I added the hemp. That’s not to say they’re not contributing though. For now I’ve knocked the whole porridge breakfast on the head to see how I go

Hi

My oats are Imported, wholegrain, organic in water. Microwaved 1.2 minutes.

I'd leave out the walnuts.

I add banana, or blueberries, or dates, or raisins.

You are loading it with lots of sugary fruits. I just use 1 frit but I change it every day.

No milk for 4 hours after taking thyroxine.

I get ectopics and also long bouts of arrhythmia. I recently started having porridge for breakfast a few weeks ago; something I haven't eaten for 30 years. It's made no difference at all

Just eat meat. Research on youtube. Makes sense as humans aren;t designed to eat carbs all the time

I prepare my organic breakfast "base" each week in an electric pressure cooker, including a mix of gluten free steel cut oats; teff; buckwheat; lentils; millet; sorghum; and quinoa. In the morning, I add soy milk, greens, fruits, walnuts, seeds (hemp & ground flax) and spices. I've not observed any connection to afib.
