bad ectopic heart beats

hi all,

im just looking for some advice to calm my mind while i wait to get in to see my cardiologist. i have suffered from ectopic heartbeats for 3 years now on and off, this year has been a pretty good year for me in regards to the ectopic beats, i havent had them as much as i usually have every other year, but this past week they have come back out of no where in full force, i have had no changes or extra stresses in life, in fact im probably the most happiest ive ever been in years, so i know stress/anxiety is not a cause, so i am finding it hard to figure out why they have made a return. i was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to calm them down at all? also what kind of magnesium people take that has made an improvement in their ectopic beats? thank you and stay safe

So sorry stephanxiety i also suffer with ectopics which are horrible, for me they come on worse when my Anxiety is heightened, when i get ill or when i don't get enough sleep, but also like you they can just come out of nowhere and are upsetting and frightening. But i have done breathing exercises every morning for the past 18 months and also take Magnesium Glycinate now 2 times a day, but have been told that Magnesium Taurate is better for ectopics from a good friend, so i will go onto Taurate.

Use the search box for Ectopic breathing exercises. They work.

Take a look at my response to the post on “Magnesium” that appears higher up this page

Hi there, I take

Magnesium Taurate which definitely helps. I also think mine are worse if I eat too much sugar or get dehydrated. I also gave up alcohol and caffeine. One or all of these things have lessened mine so that they barely bother me now. If they do start a little I try my best to ignore them so that I don’t ‘feed’ them with anxiety. I hope you can find a way to resolve yours soon as I know how debilitating they can be. All the best.

Hello Stephanxiety, I also suffer with ectopics, they can come on at any time, usually when emotionally stressed, or after an occasional alcohol drink. Bob's breathing exercise help but they (at the moment) have disappeared since I have cut out all sweeteners especially aspartame. Take care Di

I just try to ignore mine. Usually works. Worrying about them makes them worse, as you have yourself advised. If you have had them before and they have ceased leaving you in a good situation, then I would assume they would again unless there is something really different about them. Quicker you stop worrying , the better you will sleep and quicker they will stop. I find exercise also helps mine. Whether it's the exercise itself or the fact that it takes my mind off them, I am not sure.

I had a few bouts of them last year. Very unpleasant, but I considered myself not stressed about them at the time. I paid privately to have a cardiologist do a full check of my heart (again) including echocardiogram and 14 day monitor. The results came back as completely normal. That was about 6 months ago and I haven’t had a bout since. My conclusion - stress was causing my ectopics.

I developed afib and bad ectopic beats following double pneumonia a few years ago. An ablation fixed the afib and I have had no episodes since, but the ectopics are relentless and nearly every other beat unless I take Flecainide 50 mg 2 x day and a 25 ml timed release metoprolol 1x a day. With that combo, I feel perfect and fabulous and don't miss a beat. Drugs did not work at all before the ablation. Without the Flecainide, within about 18 hours after my last dose my heart rhythm goes bonkers, and eventually settles into an every other missing beat pounding rhythm which feels as bad as an afib episode that is 220+ bpm. It will keep going like this for days, skipping beats. I know because I have tried to get off of Flecainide three times, and it is not happening. I don't want to chance a surgery to fix the ectopic beats when the Flecainide is working and I feel great while on it. I hope you can get a non-pharmaceutical control over yours.
