blinding period success!

Acheybreakeyheart profile image

This week I will hit the 3 month blinding period date! I remain in Normal sinus rhythm and will be able to discontinue my Eliquis! However 3 nights ago I began to have PAC’s. Today I recorded them pretty consistently 3-6 per minute. So bummed as I haven’t really even been aware of my heart beat in last 2 months. I noticed that anxious something’s off flipping in my chest and recorded the PAC’s which seem to be increasing in frequency right here at the finish line of success! Anyone else have this happen?

I’m no longer on cardizem but my EP did tell my at 6 week follow up if I started having PAC’s to restart the cardizem to control them.

Hi, I’m not sure there is a definitive finish line, as has been said before, some are still improving up to a year later. I have my 3 month review in a couple of weeks with a few episodes to discuss. Most of the info I’ve read says you will stay on anticoagulant after an ablation as it’s a treatment not a cure.

See my bio

Best wishes

Many years ago I was desperate to stop warfarin after successful ablation but it was explained to me that the process of ablation raises stroke risk. Apparently the changes to the internal surface of the atrium can create eddies which can then allow pooling, hence many of us electing to stay on anticoagaulants for life.

Thanks Bob, not had it explained like that before, makes sense and good info for me going in to review.

The blanking period can last a lot longer than 3 months; mine was about a year.

However whilst I hoped to be relieved of most or even all of my AF burden, I didn't expect to have no arrythmia at all and so it proved. Plenty of lumps and bumps still, and that's fine by me. Chad score is 0, so not on any drugs.

I still have ectopic beats 5 months on from ablation but they always disappear when I relax and practice box breathing. I just think of it as my heart grumbling at having been so disturbed.
