I have low rate AF with heart rate no higher than 130 when in AF my normal heart rate is 54 - 120. If anything has changed with your heart rate or Af then see your cardio nurse/ GP or consultant. Any changes need to be reported - though not necessarily anything to worry about.

The rate is usually a result of AF not the cause. You can have either. Obviously if concerned or you feel any different then speak to your treating doctor.

I honestly thought the high rate was the cause of my Afib

No not at all. The fibrillating left atrium passes lots of its rogue impluses down to the ventricle making it beat in a very irregular way . Maybe only half or less get through but still result in high rate. Many people have AF rates well over 200 bpm.

Usually exercise > 160bpm for me to trigger, then AF around 70bpm. Had one occurence when just warming up at low HR and straight into AF, so my trigger isn't only HR / exercise related.

I don’t know if it’s normal for everyone but last November, I switched from having both of PAF into regular a F with a pulse rate of only 75 beats submitted have been in permanent AF since with a pulse rate of no more than 65 occasionally going up so over 120. The pot rate is a lot lower than it was while having parts of PAF then the pulse rate would be over 140 up to 190s

I can tip into AF either when exercising or when relaxed (= 45-55bpm). Rarely in the middle!

Hello Decaf_Andy! Are you on any medication for that? Curious how you would treat the two extremes…

For a couple of years I chose no treatment as my quality of life wasn’t badly affected. I’m quite fit and tolerate AF ok (get it once a week or so). It doesn’t stop me doing much.

Last year I decided to see if flecanide would reduce frequency or duration ( was typ 24-36hr) of attacks, mainly so I could still plan multi-day cycle touring. It’s done both and my consultant is happy for me to proactively manage my dosing, so I sometimes take extra if have a strenuous day on the bike planned.

My life’s pretty good: I’m not keen on the tail-risks of an ablation.

Hi

Low or high H/Rate either will cross you into AF. Its the trigger you need to monitor and try to eliminate.

I have it persistently and asleep when my average H/Rate is 47. Also when my H/Rate of 60s Day. But H/Rate is controlled and therefore it helps my AF.

The Rapid diagnosis is no longer as controlled.

I don’t understand, how do you know if you’re in AF if your heart rate is low?

Because the beat is irregular ( jumping about all over the place ). That is what a.f. is, rogue electrical signals.

It's important to note that AF can manifest in different patterns and ratios, one example 4:1 bpm ratio indicates that the ventricles are not receiving every atrial contraction. Instead, at this slow rate, the atrial contractions are being partially blocked or delayed before reaching the ventricles. The specific ratio and severity of AF can vary a great deal among individuals.
