Recently prescribed bisoprolol 1.25, consultant did say if HR drops to low I should stop taking it. HR is 34/35 when I'm asleep. Should I be concerned about this? HR seems to be okay during the day but difficult to establish because it fluctuates because I have been in constant AFib for two days now.
Thank you in advance for any replies

Normal range is 60-100 but peoples’s tolerances vary. If your heart rate is 34/35 the whole time, that would be too low. If it dips occasionally to that level but mostly in the 50-60’s I wouldn’t worry.
Speak to your doctor for any questions about this type of advice as they will know your history.
It's constantly records 34/35 when I'm asleep. It's fine when I awake 60 - 90. I don't have low heart notifications switched on on my device would never get any sleep GP defo does not know my history but I will run it by him/her at appointment tomorrow. Sincere thanks SCreamer
I reported feel uncomfortable on 5mg of bisoprolol at swift drop of resting heart rate and was told to call back if it dropped below 50 which it did over a few days. Was told to experiment with 1 or 2 1.25 mg once or twice a day. Ended up with 2 x 1.25 am that kept me with a comfortable low/mid 50s resting pulse.
Can you email or call your consultant’s secretary?
I’ve found them to be really helpful, it seems a bit low to me but depends what it was before bisoprolol. 1.25mg dropped my average resting HR from mid 50s to mid 40s but I never monitored overnight.
That does seem very low. If you can’t get through to your consultant’s secretary or your GP, I know the British Heart Foundation have a helpline 0808 802 1234 to speak to an experienced nurse. That’s only if you’re in the UK of course. All the best.
Call the prescribing doctor right away and get number for "too low" and follow that advice. Personally, I think 34/35 bpm, is way too low, perhaps dangerously low, but I'm not a doctor, nor do I have your complete medical history.
Hi that's a great question. I'm normally SR Bradycardia around 40 resting HR. Admitted to hospital with syncope and a LVT trace I was put on 1.25 Bisoprolol because the nature of the VT was more serious than the risks from lowering the resting heart rate. My consultant had previously discussed bisoprolol to mange Afib then called me again to say no, at that time the balance of risk was greater from low HR!In hospital, as I still am, after 3 days on the bisoprolol I was shaken from my sleep by a slightly panicky sounding nurse shouting my name in the small hours. The red lights had gone off because my HR had fallen to below 30! Not good apparently. I came off but am back on, still in hospital and the.monitor regularly sits at around 35. My BP which was normally around 105/60 has also dropped on occasions lowest I've seen was 91/47.
Hi. I was on bisoprolol for two months following my afib diagnose but it made my hr in 40s during sleeping and in 50s during the day and I had dizziness through the day. I was on 1,25mg. 3 weeks ago I was told to stop bisoprolol since it was a small dose to see if my hr gets better and if the dizziness stops. It did, and my hr now during sleeping is in 50s and during the day in 70s. 30s sounds really low. What is your hr during the day?
HR during the day is ok 65/90 but not sure if its reaches that level because I have been in AFib for the past three days or so which could be pushing HR up due to the nature of AFib beast.
Did consultant give any helpful parameters about 'too low?' For goodness sake, give us a clue!It does sound quite low at night, I am kept at 50/55 and frequently dip 45/50 which I am raising soon. Still on 1.25 bisoprolol although no Flutter now present.
I'd seek guidance here,BHF nurses,GP etc.
It's reassuring that it's coming back up in daytime but ,to get checked out definitely. Xx
"consultant did say if HR drops to (sic) low I should stop taking it"
You haven't mentioned having a low HR normally so I suspect your resting HR is probably in the average range. I'm not a medical professional but for the average person a sleeping HR of 34/35 sounds very low.
I have always had a below average HR (resting in mid 40's- low 50's) but if I was having sleeping HR of 34/35 after I started a new medication I'd be calling my doctor's the next morning questioning whether it was ok.
I take 1.25mg bisoprolol. I was originally on 2.5mg and the GP who prescribed it gave me 5mg tablets as well in case I needed them! Why would I need them? My normal HR has always been 70 to 80. She has never measured my HR. The 2.5mg made me feel really dozy and sluggish. At the time I didn't have a Fitbit but I asked GP if I could lower the dose. 1.25mg still made me feel sluggish so now I take it at bedtime. My Fitbit often records around 40bpm at the end of the night.
I have never seen a cardiologist, only by letter to the GP asking her to put me on apixaban. It was her decision to prescribe bisoprolol. I think it's supposed to regulate your heartbeat, but mine has never been irregular.
I think you need to see your GP and discuss your concerns. Having said that, I've got nowhere with mine, having moved house and changed GPs, they seem very reluctant to change any of my meds or doses.
I was told that "too low" means that symptoms are experienced from it. It seems to be the symptomatic aspect that is what creates any concern, rather than the actual pulse rate. I would, however, discuss this with your GP, who will have a good deal of knowledge borne of experience.
My hr has always been low around 55-45, I to ,was put on bosoprolol 2.5 but I gave it up because hr was to low and I felt lethargic, since then I've been fine.
yes your heart rate sounds too low. I was told anything under 40 was low, but yours seems ok during the day. Do you take your bisoprolol in the morning or night? Better morning
When mine went down to low 40s and my husbands in his 30s we both had to have pacemakers. My EP said if the pm and medication kept my heart in order I wouldn’t have to have another left sided ablation. Touch wood other than covid messing things for a few days all seems to be well 🤞
Having said all that so many people do well having had ablations and certainly my first one helped the tachycardia. Remember a lot of people on any forum often relate problems as they want help and reassurance and successes go silent for a while
Your heart rate sounds fine as again I was told anything between 60-100 is ok
I am presently on 2.5mg bisoprolol for Atrial Fibrillation and my hr regularly drops down to low 40's when i am asleep, but 1 day last week it dropped down to middle 30's, same as yours and I made an appointment with doctor, who has taken blood samples and ordered an ecg to find the cause. If I take just 1.25mg bisoprolol to try and raise my hr when asleep, then my heart rate goes sky high when in AF, so I have to be careful. I think my AF is caused by low blood/oxygen levels, due to sleep apnoea. Had triple heart bypass 9 months ago. Hope you get yours sorted.
that’s exactly what my normal heart rate is at night 33/34bpm. I am fine with it and my daughter who is 29 has a night time heart rate of 35. During the day my resting heart rate is 44 but it does go up to the 50’s if I am walking etc. they tried me on bisoprol but it was causing leg cramps in the night so was taken off it. Everyone is different. I don’t have any effects at all from that very slow heart rate but it does support my theory of a low heart rate can cause AF
your waking rate seems fine, mine on 5mg Bisoprolol used to be 50-55. Haven't foggiest what it was at night. After ops my hr was often about 40, and the hospital would keep me in until it went up. Last time it didn't and I now have a pacemaker which stops it going below 60. Perhaps ask GP for a 24hr monitor.
