Recently started back on Bisoprolol for palpitations/PVCs after 7yrs off. I'm on low dose, 1.25mg but they've really calmed down what were pretty uncomfortable symptoms (3 A&E visits in one weekend!)
Anyhow, have a holter monitor booked for next week and not sure whether to stop the Bisoprolol or just do it as is.
Don't really want to unleash the old symptoms again! And actually questioning what the point of the monitor is at this stage as I'm not in Afib and the betablocker is doing a fine job. I've also previously had monitors which just showed PVCs.
Any opinions gratefully received.

Hi there, iam sorry to hear that you are experiencing palpitations issues. It could be Anxiety which is the cause or may be stress. A sudden rush of adrenaline into the blood stream would set of palpitations too. The beater blocker you are taking now will calm down palpitations you are experiencing. The reason behind the 24 hour holter is to see if you will be experiencing any more palpitations knowing you are taking 1.25mg of Bisoprolo. I wouldn't stop you medication because getting a very fast HR is very uncomfortable, feeling lightheaded. No one wants to experience that. It happened to me on Monday when I was out eating my Lunch with my wife and friend. It just came on heart palpitations and feeling very lightheaded,;I passed out for a min or 2 in the back of my friends car. Straight to A&E, when I got there HR 147, blood pressure 183/120, I was unwell for over 2 hours but ecg was good, bloods came back OK. Go to your GP and ask for a referral to see cardiology to see what's going on with heart health. Take care.
The 24-heart holter is to see how bisoprolol is controlling your AF and heart rate low/high.
On Metoprolol I had pauses within a 47bpm average night. Interesting so with breathless on any exertion it has been banned along with all Ace Blockers.
I now have Bisoprolol but it did not reduce h/Rate under 156 so CCB Calcium Channel Blocker Diltiazem. Tweaking the dose I now take it AM 120mg with PM 2.5 Biso...
110-130 / 69. 60s Day been steady for a year. Always 47avge night asleep.
Hi my experience of a holder monitor is to carry on as normal with the meds But when they get the results and tell you nothing found apart from PVC's just stand your ground and explain that PAF comes and goes and there is a good chance that when you are monitored your heart is behaving itself.
I had a Kardia bought for me as a Christmas present. I kept all my readings when in AF and asked to send them the results which backed up my telling them of AF episodes. It was evidence they could not refute.
All I'm saying is that you need to take control of your condition and with help from a Kardia or smart watch you can prove the difficulties you are experiencing so that the specialist can make a more informed decision and treat you accordingly. Let's face it the NHS here in the UK is stretched for resources so sometimes we have to help ourselves to help them.
Sorry if that sounded like a rant but I hope that you are able to get the help you need.
Great idea to keep a record of AF episodes. I did it for about two years and when presenting it to my EP he said " You are a prime candidate for an ablation". I have never looked back.
I agree with you. My AF is kicking off more now especially after strenuous exercise so was put on a 24hr monitor. Waste of time as no episode within that 24hrs but got one the next day 🤦♀️
