Does anyone have any insight as to why my heart rate spikes and drops suddenly? Tends to happen overnight but not every night.

thanks!

I wouldn't call that a spike, but just a normal variance. Won't even try to guess the cause, but would not lose any sleep over it, forgive the pun :)

I'm not a medical professional but suspect they're could be a number of reasons for it. It's probably one you should raise with your GP. A Holter monitor might be needed to get to bottom of it.

Can you see the beat to beat data when you drill in to it? I get spikes like this occasionally on Apple Watch, it is a known anomaly with wearable devices that false highs and lows can be seen in historical data. I’m not saying that is the case here but it is a consideration, it’s the limitations of the heart rate being captured by optical sensors looking for blood movement under the skin for background checks and the electrical sensors used to take an ECG will be more accurate. When I’ve seen these I sometimes find the spike is twice the rate of beats either side and my thinking is one beat has been split in two and causes can be arm movement or loose fitting. All this is assuming that your data is from a watch / wearable device.

Try doing an internet search for your device and false highs.

it’s not all that high and for not very long. My guess it’s when you dream or perhaps just roll around. If that’s all you gave to worry about you’ve got it made!

I have that too. Normally wake with it after having some weird dream. Don't know if the dream sparks the high heart or vice versa. I deal with by breathing exercises.

following on from AF for a number of years and several ops to fix it, i now have a pacemaker to maintain a heart rate of 60 bpm, however i do have spikes through the night ranging from 130 - 200 bpm. I have been given extra bisoprolol to help calm it but still have them. btw i am unaware when it happens, its just picked up on my regular pacemaker reviews.

Hi

Recent research ?s "should we Drs give beta blockers to AF patients?".

I'm waiting to hear as Metoprolol or Bisoprolol did not control my rapid persistent AF H/r ate Day.

But CCB Diltizem did control my h/Rate - ver drastic. From 156 on the latter 10mg to 51 in 2 hours.

Some folks take 30mg p.i.p.

Hi

Are you on Metoprolol?

This drug on any exertion spiked my h/Rate but also unfortunately gave me pauses during night. Not cool does it awake you?

Have a 24-hr heart monitor attached to you.

I take 10mg bisoprolol in morning and 2.5mg in the evening, never taken Metoprolol.

I waken often during the night but not sure what causes it.

I have a pacemaker check up in a few weeks so I'll raise it there.

Thanks

Hi

As I have sad BB Bisoprolol never did control or bring down h/rate day. But CCB Diltiazem.

Another suggestion is your Pacemaker's batteries need replacing.

Take care but how annoying waking up at night.

Your Bisoprolol dose is high.
