hi. My afib has been steady for around 3 months (ie no episodes). My HR runs around 52-60. I’ve started with a chest infection yesterday (can remember feeling like this for a long time)
I checked my afib via Apple Watch and although it says I’m in sinus rhythm my HR is low to mid 90’s.
Could this start another episode? Is there anything I can do to help myself? As I say I feel so poorly another afib episode on top of this infection doesn’t bare thinking about.
Thanks for any advise.

I'm with you on this one. I was in hospital for a week not long back. Chest infection too. Hey you can deal with this - your HR is OK . Even if you go in to afib again the chances are you'll soon go back to sinus.
Hi, I have recently had a chest infection too. Took a course of antibiotics . The worst is cleared but still have some sputum & cough just can't shake it off. Maybe when the weather improves?
The elevated pulse is consistent with fighting an infection and possibly some dehydration. Stay hydrated and test for Covid if you haven't already. Sometimes infections trigger afib, but not necessarily, so try and be positive.
I do find it hard to keep my hydration levels up. One of my episodes in the summer was brought on by dehydration and my kidneys suffering as a result of it.
when I had Covid last year my HR moved from 60 to 80 but all settled after a few days. Likewise watch said sinus so don’t panic as it will bring your HR up, slow breathing through the nose and out the nose
Hi Marcy - yes it could start AF episode but it doesn’t mean that it will. Worrying whether or not it may is not going to help you so be with what is. You are in NSR and long may it last.
There seem to be many secondary bacterial infections currently being caused by the current crop of cold viruses and covid that are about such that, if I were you, I would ask your GP to check for this. It might be that you need to be started on antibiotics. I think that a slightly raised heart rate can be a sign of the body fighting infection.
I really can appreciate how you feel. My AFib was mostly brought on by infections. So I was alaways worried about catching anything. Don’t think there is much you can do about it. I had an ablation in September, hoping I wouldn’t have to worry about getting any more AFib. I actually put a post on here yesterday, about a nasty cough I have at the moment and if it would bring back my AFib, so I am still worrying about getting infections. !!! Hopefully, we’ll both be ok. Best wishes.
i had same after bad chest infection. Loads of anti biotics an steroids. Tachy for 2 months. Then back to 60. So just look after yourself. Decaf. And magnesium really helps. I get fulnesium from Amazon
I won't go into what may have caused the issue. Unless you are particularly vulnerable I would forget about C- tests and jabs.
I would invest in a good quality nasal and mouth/throat spray and use before any crowded and confined spaces or as soon as an infection starts. Not any old OTC spray but more specialised. I started with a silver nasal spray and have now graduated to Immunmist - both nasal & throat from the States.
There are many protocols for many situations on the FLCCC site.
Same for me. Viral chest infection HR 90/100 (normally 60) and very concerned that I would trip into AF. However, a week on and so far so good. HR down to a less worrying 65/70 and on the road to recovery and no sign of AF . Plenty of rest and hydration seems to help. Prescribed Amoxicillin but I suspect more precautionary than anything.
