Welcome Spalafin! Although we know you'd rather not be here this is a great place to gather advice on management and to learn about others' experiences. You'll also get a few laughs.

Everyone's experience of AF is different- some hardly notice it others cannot do anything except moulder on a sofa while it's going on (that was me). The number one thing to get your head round is that AF doesn't kill us. there are people here who've had it for 30 years and they still mamage to have good lives.

I'll leave others to share their stuff.

Do you know yet if you are paroxysmal (have AF intermittently) or persistent (have it all the time)? Would be helpful for other responses.

Hi to you. I think you will find this forum invaluable as you start your AF journey. I don’t think l would be where l am today without help on here as l was absolutely terrified when firsr diagnosed. I had never heard of AF. With the shock and new medications it was bewildering. It’s important to take an anticoagulant and l expect you already do. The thing to always remember is that this is not life threatening and although it’s not curable, it is treatable. I thought my life was over, but l couldn’t have been more wrong. You can have a good quality of life still and you will smile again. Once you become stabalised on the medications and/or treatments that suit you (we are all different) and accept this monster you will be fine. I am grateful they diagnosed me as lots of people have it and don’t know. Try to keep as calm as possible (easier said than done) it does help to relax and take deep breaths when you are having an episode. AF and anxiety go hand in hand unfortunately. I wish you a happy and peaceful New Year.
