I told ya, I told ya...! Now prof. Schiiling has said that AF is not causing stroke! 5 times larger risk of stroke in people with AF! Funny! The risk of stroke goes up with ageing, so ... maybe all the elderly should take anticoagulants as preventive...

Thank you for the video! Best spent 20 minutes in this year! Prof. Schilling is fantastic!

I’d encourage everyone to watch this. It’s as close as you’ll get to sitting across the desk from a top cardiologist for 25 minutes without paying for the privilege.

Interesting video, and sets my mind at rest about my permanent AF with Bisoprolol plus apixaban. The latter based on my Chads2vasc score of 2, for age and gender.

Of course I would have loved to stay in NSR - as I did feel better when I used to revert back to it. But it’s perfectly possible to just get on with life with rate control. Recently had the Bisoprolol reduced just a little, as the Holter monitor showed some leeway in that average rate.

Great news - I can bin the decaf!

Interesting video and definitely worth the 25 mins to watch.

Touches on the importance of DOACs and gives a succinct rational for medications and treatments.

Excellent video and Sanjay Gupta from York Cardio has a video on you tube making exactly that point. Just because you have AF doesn't increase the risk of stroke. The chadvasc risk assessment doesn't even include that in the assessment. Puts my mind somewhat at ease. Great when you hear it from an acknowledged expert in the field.

Brilliant video, now I understand why my EP is so keen for me to start AC with a score of 1 for being female, and not wait 6 months till I am 65. Am hoping I can stop episodes after an ablation (6-9 months wait in my area )

Excellent post to a really thought provoking video. Thank you so much.

Here is my take away on the subject.

A chadvad score of >1 will be achieved by millions of people beyond the age of 65, treatment by the NHS using DOAC s and beta blockers will be unsustainable because the side effects in many people will present as symptoms and we are all on a merry go round to madness

If AF doesn’t cause the blood clot in the atrium, then why is there no discussion on occluding the Left Atrial Appendage to remove the risk of clotting and obviate the need for medications.

Prof Schilling called the use of a CV a cheap solution, very interesting.

Prof Schilling advocates Amiodarone in certain events, even for long term usage, I was a bit astonished by this.

Completely frightened me with the use of a statistic that said there is a 1 in 5 chance of having a stroke over 10 years if not anticoagulated. I’ll need to study this bit of the video again.

The video was directed quite a lot at average heart rate for persistent AF sufferers which was nice to see. My cardiologist put me on Bisoprolol and my average HR is in the 80’s( I have a Wellue wearable ECG monitor). One idiot GP even ramped it up to 5mg a day. I have cut BB back to 1.25mg per day myself , I told the cardiologist, but now I’m going to wean off them completely. And yes, I do feel a lot better at the lower dose, less lightheaded and breathless.

Thank you, thank you 🙏🏻. If only doctors had spoken in depth like that to me it would have helped me no end in understanding what condition I had and what could be done. Also a follow up appointment would have been invaluable as I thot of many many questions after my A&E visit in 2006 and would have been armed with information that would have no doubt helped me to help myself. Instead I was sent away as back then I went back into NSR and was sent home with no meds and told to see your doctor if required. I was told it was Atrial tachycardia!! Unbeknown to me things got worse until back in hospital last year 2022 and a diagnosis of AF!! I have been really stressed with all of this and again during last year was told no follow up required even tho he put me on digoxin after Bisoprolol didn’t get the rate to where he thot it should be. Another case of see your doctor! I am going to search on you tube for Prof Schillings name as well as Dr Gupta ? as listening to this video calmed my nerves somewhat and out things into perspective. Thank you again Quest 4NSR.
