Thanks to everybody who responded to my recent post about a colonoscopy cancelled at the last second because I had earlier gone into AF. Thought I would finish it with an update. Received letter today from surgical consultant who basically stated that the colonoscopy had not been necessary because the reason, a stool blood test, had in fact been negative, not positive, they would not be rebooking it, and were passing it back to GP to think again about my anaemia. So I had all the physical stress of prepping for a procedure, resulting in an AF episode, disruption and anxiety, all in vain, back to square one. Mister Not Impressed.

My commiserations! I hope you find out what’s causing your anaemia. With luck it will be straightforward and treatable.

Good grief! I’m sorry to hear you went through all that stress for nothing, I’m not surprised you aren’t impressed. My neighbour had the procedure a couple of months back and said the bowel prep was grim! I hope they find the cause of your anaemia without needing recourse to any further invasive investigations.

There are 2 types of anaemia. Iron is one and low B12 and Folic Acid another.

Is your anaemia due to internal bleeding anywhere in your body. I guess no blood in your stools means no bleeding there.

Are you on a anti.co-agulant?

Hopefully now we can forget about bleeding in the gut, although I am on rivaroxaban so that doesn't help if anything is playing up, like diverticulitis.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the Nothing Happening Soon but I'm not surprised. I became Mister Unimpressed with them years ago. Hope you get some resolution soon.

I boost my b12 to 700 level by Solgar's sublingual nugget daily. Them I settled down to 3 days of 1 nugget daily.

Oh dear - but good news, nonetheless. Even the best of us makes errors, and, if you were working in the NHS at present as our fine daughter-in-law does, you would be very forgiving as life for them is extraordinarily pressured and 12-hour shifts add to that burden.

I was lined up for a colonoscopy a few years ago. I got all the way to the morning of the procedure only to be told I should have stopped my Warfarin. I said no-one told me and they said they had. I had to wait another month before they rescheduled it.

It is so upsetting because as you say there is so much stress leading up to these occasions. I also had 2 ablations and a nose operation postponed right at the last minute.

We must not take for granted that they should tell us about our anti-co.agulant before procedures.

I had a ring 10 days ago about my PRADAXA from the anaesthetist. I said I had already told the private hospital that I would be stopping it 3 clear days prior to day of operation.

They see many patients and we should alert them for our own good.

My operation is on Monday - right shoulder repair.

I should be OK. H/Rate controlled under 100 - now 60s Day at rest.

I have been reminded that over 100 the team won't do any surgery.

I guess that in a colonscopy they could be cutting out polyps as they go. Also putting down a camera could cause inflammation.

I was more interested in the nil per mouth for food and drink. I was allowed 30ml water up until 2 hours prior.

All that for nothing!! Unbelievable! Although part of you will be relieved you don’t need it now, but maybe if they had waited for the result first…..

At least you had a good clear out and can start afresh with an empty colon!! "Always look on the bright side"!!😆
