blood thinner easiest on stomach

Hi! I have been on Eliquis(apixaban) and just a half dose because of my sensitivities to get me used to it for seven weeks. I have a lot of stomach upset and discomfort and nausea on and off and lots of gas and it’s hard to think of living in daily discomfort for the rest of my life on this blood thinner. It also makes me fearful because I have been wonder if it’s doing damage to my stomach .

I tried Xarelto( forgot chemical name) once, and that was even worse on my stomach.

For those with Gastro sensitivities , is Warafin, easier on the stomach?

I read on some site that warafin interacts with thyroid medicine and I’m on levothyroxine. I will ask the pharmacist, but you people seem at least as knowledgeable.

Thanks so much. 💜🎶💜

I've always taken my Warfarin mid breakfast and this way I don't get any stomach soreness whatsoever.

Thanks. Trying to get anecdotal info from people to help decide if I should switch to that. Have a great day.

Only a/c which gave me probs was Dabigatran - terrible reflux + pain. Seems to be the worst.

Good luck with the Warafin, if allowed with your thyroid meds. If not, you might want to reassess your risk/reward ratio with your doctor, which is always a good idea anyway. There are also LAA Closure devices, such as Watchman, you might qualify for although in some cases they require baby aspirin for life, but they should get you safely off DOAC's.

Hi

You have my sympathy. I have suffered from IBS for 20 years. In Jan this year, I was put on Rivaroxaban (xrelto) 20mg once a day for AF. Within a few weeks the IBS was much worse, making it impossible to sleep at night.

I changed to Apixaban (eliquis) (5mg BD) but it did not help.

I have had a colonoscopy and there is no problem with the colon.

I am currently starting Warfarin in the hopes that because it works in a different way it may help.

They are currently trying to get the dosage right, so it's early days yet.

I'm not hopeful so far. If it does not work, I'm out of options, and I may discontinue the anticoagulant, since only my Kardia mobile is able to find any trace of AF.

I have been on apixaban 4 years with no problems. The brand has recently been changed from Eliquis and I have been suffering with IBS since. Anyone else noticed a change in brand and reaction?

You may have the same genetic issues that I have. I do not properly metabolize Warfarin, or any Coumadin-based drugs completely so they accumulate in the liver. This causes severe side effects like stomach pain and insomnia.

I can't take the DOACS either for a different genetic defect. So I have been prescribed heparin shots. Unpleasant to take, but no side effects like stomach pain, insomnia or migraine. And it doesn't seem to be affecting my Levothyroxine at all. Hopefully it will keep me from having another ministroke.

If you have lots of side effects to medications, I recommend doing a genetic study based on a saliva sample.

Thank you. I just sent out a genetic test specifically for pharmaceuticals. I should get results within 2weeks. It was a swab test by ClaityX. Which was the saliva test you did? Thanks again.
