stomach ulcer and blood thinners

hello all, has anyone got an ulcer from Edoxoban, I’ve had really bad stomach pains with sweating and the pain radiating to my back, I thought it was a heart attack at first as I know with women it can be felt in those areas, I was nearly sick as well, doctor recons it’s an ulcer from the Edoxoban. Has anyone else had this and what is the best way to get rid of ulcers as the omepralol is making things worse.

You should be working with both a gastroenterologist and your EP to decide the best course forward which may include a different acid suppression drug as well as a reevaluation of the risks versus rewards of taking thinners like Edixoban and any anti-platelet drug(s) such as aspirin, if relevant.

Hello, I’ve just been put on lansoprazole so I will see if this is better. The doctor has found something in my stool sample but I have to make an appointment to find out what.

Edoxoban will not cause an ulcer, but if one is already present it will be more likely to bleed. Has there been blood in your stool? Sounds like you need a complete workup to determine and treat the cause of your pain. Gallstones, pancreatitis and many other conditions need to be ruled out. Best etheral

Hello, my doctor said all blood thinners can cause an ulcer which I was surprised they didn’t tell me. They have found something in my stool sample but don’t know what it is yet.

No experience but one of the factors why I didn't start anti-coags 10 years ago as have an uninvestigated soreness in my stomach, which has latterly been dormant. Hope you get some good advice and get your issue sorted.

Hello, I’m only on them as I have strokes in my family and it’s too scary to think of the outcome if I should have one.

Makes sense!

The only way I believe is to take a PPI drug of which there are several, including omeprazole. Doctors usually also check for the presence of a bacterium in the stomach called helicobacter pyogenes which can cause stomach ulceration and, if present, needs a PPI along with an antibiotic combination to get rid of it. I believe that bleeding from a gastric ulcer while talking an anticoagulant can be a serious issue so I hope your GP is treating you accordingly.

Like you, I also sometimes get discomfort and sometimes pain on my left side, along my under-rib and diaphragm, which radiates into my back and shoulder area. I never know whether this is from my heart or my stomach troubles (I also have a small hiatus hernia and acid reflux).

If omeprazole doesn’t suit you, perhaps one of the others would work better (e.g. esomeprazole or lansoprazole).

Hello, I’m not taking omeprazole now she has put me on lanzopralole instead so I’m hoping it’s better. The doctor has found so in my stool sample but I have not been told yet what it is. I also thought it was heart related when I have all this stomach pain, it’s unnerving. I think all these pills cause most of it.

I have felt similarly but you are suffering more than I ever have from this. It’s such bad luck. Your doctor will find a solution but the treatment of AF is quite limited really and most people don’t have drug related issues. Of course, a few do and you are unfortunate. An answer will be found. The important thing is to be sure any internal problems are controlled. i suspect that the lansoprazole will do this.

Hi, if it's confirmed as an ulcer there are anti biotics to clear it up ask doc for a Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacterial infection bllod test.

Hello, yes they found something in my stool sample but don’t know what yet, she has given me two different antibiotics but I have to take on lot back as they contain red and black colourings and I can’t take them so that’s delayed it all.
