I’ve been change to Dronedarone, been taking it about 4 months and have had episodes of AF, in fact currently ‘I n one’, this is after a day of stress so not surprised, but having been to the consultant the day before the previous attack last week can not work out why.
Also I find odd is the episodes frequently start on Thursdays 🤷🏼♀️ No idea what triggers are.
This is SO annoying as we’re due to go away and not sure how to handle it all.
Any thoughts?

I have been on Dronedarone for a year - I find it’s not that effective at preventing afib but does make it more tolerable - in the end had an ablation and that has massively improved things
I hope you’re still not in Afib…however if you are, all I can offer is for you to try a valsalva manoeuvre? Though it may be a bit late to try that if you haven’t already. The manoeuvres work for me, but I know they don’t for everyone.
I pinch my nose, whilst blowing through the small end of an empty syringe - (so aiming to move the plunger) but never do…don’t do yourself a mischief though- blow for about 10 seconds if poss. Then strain as if needing to go to the loo….Then quickly lie down and with your legs up against a sofa ( or ask someone to hold them up) for 15 seconds- then lower gently. It works for me, the last time I did it, it worked on second go though and I did it all within a few mins of going into AF.
Thanks , nothing works. Tried freezing cold showers, rocking back n forth 🤷🏼♀️ No thankfully it went back Saturday afternoon sometime, which is better than a previous episode but……. Was hoping NOT to get any as this is a new drug for me.
I’ve got a genetic disorder Haemochromatisis, iron overload, liver disorder and definitely think this IS all connected, hoping I might get a venesection or two, ie blood removal and it ‘might’ help, but……. I’m talking to those who think they know what they’re talking about, so have to see.
But this is the 2nd episode in 2 wks, were as when in flecainide was a rarer episodes 😤
I’m glad you’re back - I remember speaking to you previously about all your probs with the iron overload, sorry that you haven’t had a venesection yet.
If the dronederone isn’t working as it should and fleconaide was better, can you not go back to Fleconaide? or is that a daft question?
I’d wondered that, but the consultant said it wasn’t working 🤷🏼♀️ The issue was heading for a 2 day inquest on the negligent death of my brother, I’d driven a long awkward journey and I can get uptight. But oddly, the episodes seem to start Thursday and can last till Sunday if I’m really unlucky, why I’ve no idea. The consultant mentioned a monitor last time I went to him, so when I’m back from holiday will probably take up. I’ve an Apple Watch and Kardia both very good, but he said the monitor will be more detailed.
I tried dronedarone and my episodes increased to daily. Lasting 6 hours to 36 hours. Now on 150 flecanide twice a day. Still mostly daily but around 2 hours now. It also made me fatigued walking up even small inclines. Now back to at least 5 mile daily walks.
I was prescribed dronadarone but it did not stop my AF so my EP stopped them now just on bisoprolol 5 mg all together split morning 3.75 and evening 1.25. And ofcourse apixaban. He said it is a tocix drug and no point in taking it if not working.
