Dear all

Was having a nice morning doing a little bit of digging in the garden. Stopped for soup at lunch time and bang the paf bit my bum. Off to bed for 4 hrs and it passed. I deal with it better now thanks to the advice and guidance if you guys 😊

Always seems to be just after I have eaten or early hours? Vagal ?

Next question. EP wants to do the ablation but all on hold. So option of starting Dronedarone at this difficult time for the NHS. Flec put me in A@E . Has anyone been on the Dronedarone . All help greatly appreciated

Rod

Dronedarone (Multaq from Sanofi Aventis)) is a relative of Amiodarone but without the iodine so less toxic. It was hoped to be the great hope for us AFers when it was approved back along but didn't quite live up to expectations. There were also some complications in US with from memory liver issues but mostly due to poor checking of patient suitability so it got an even worse name. I don't see it prescribed often these days but worth a try. I think regular liver function tests are a good idea though.

(The only reason I know all this is that I "starred" in a film about AF for Sanofi around the time of the release which raised some money for AF Association) Good fun if slightly melodramatic.)

As always thanks Bob

Worth a try as the paf ,as you warned, becoming more frequent.

I will read about it as I don’t understand how it can positively effect rhythm and rate.

I have to stop the Verapamil so now pip. Bit concerned.

Hi Rod, I took Amiodarone and fleicanide and didn’t get on well with either, so I stopped taking them.

I wondered are you eating something that’s contributing to the paf. Bread, alcohol, spices, and any foods / pills with additives can bring mine on!! Just a thought ! Best wishes☘️

I took the Flec but had an adverse effect and into hospital so a definite no no (pity).

I haven’t had alcohol since I was diagnosed 18 months ago and lost 2 stone.

Do you take anything? If not how do you manage?

Rod, sounds like you have vagally mediated PAF. Experience has taught me to reduce my past levels of enjoyable exertion and also not to go from exertion to total relaxation (e.g. relaxing lunch in the sun after digging!) but to wind down slowly. Good luck.

Second try

Do you take anything that helps?

Thank you for your help

My hi profile London Naturopath treats his AF patients with a Magnesium compound (Nutri Mega Muscleze) & 200mgs/day CoQ10. I feel these two are essential and have been on them plus 200mgs Flecainide for 6 years with virtually zero AF. I checked with my cardiologist first and just got raised eyebrows!! I am very cautious with supplements and where I buy them but the above two I believe have helped my health generally. I don't take statins but I have read Co Q10 is important to take if you are on them.

Ha ha some slight reassurance here - house cleaning all morning 50 minute walk - some hills , then a sandwich in the sun - 10 minutes later PAF kicked in?? Scary 3 hours ago just slowing down slightly ?

Have you tried taking magnesium? I take magnesium taurate. I had an ablation in 2013 and free of Af since.

Recently I ran out of the tablets and had a couple of short episodes. May not be related but I promptly go some more!

Lallym

I take Magnesium Citrate

Is there a difference?

I believe there is but can’t give any advice. I just read on here that magnesium taurate is best. Think to do with taurine. See my reply below.

Stay well

I’m having difficulty finding a supplier of Magnesium taurate. Can you help and what is the best daily dose for AF.-All advice welcome

I get mine from Amazon. There is a lot of discussion on here about this so if you put it into the search box you will get lots of info.

I can’t recommend daily dosage but I currently am taking Tom Oliver brand from Amazon 600mg

Thank you for that lallym . I will check that out .What made you choose a 600mg dosage

Nothing in particular. This was the one available and I decided to try that and see.

You might want to look at Dr Sanjay Gupta. He posts here sometimes and has a lot to say about AF and magnesium. I am no expert and rarely take supplements but was thought magnesium was worth a shot.

Was on Dronedarone after my ablation as still had a few small episodes. Never had a problem. A nurse at the hospital I was in said in all her 11 year she had never seen it prescribed. My cardiologist didnt want to put me on amiodarone due to side effects and id been on it before my ablation for a few months

I was on dronedarone about 10 years ago for a year. I had to come off it as they thought a lower leg rash was caused by it. But tbh nothing has ever done much to control my af other than ablation for a few years. I now take nebivolol beta blocker as i know it is beneficial although doesnt do much for rate. I am also on blood thinner and have pacemaker.

Thank you. Strange reaction.

Did the Dronedarone help with attack’s?

I await the ablation but who knows when?

To be honest, no meds have really helped much. Magnesium citrate did for a while.
